Joel Robles

I still have a belly laugh every now and again at people who were coming on here saying that Howard was better than Martyn because Martyn apparently only had 1 good season with us. Then when pulled up on it, they said his player of the season award in 2003 didn't count because we finished 17th
Martyn was the biggest reason we got champions league and the biggest reason we didn't get relegated. My only regret is that we didn't get him earlier.

Hahahahaha what the hell is this absolute guff, posted in the "Everton news" thread? Apparently, despite Joel contributing to more wins in the past 6 months than Howard has in 2 years, Joel isn't capable of winning us games but Howard is. Who is the complete testicle that wrote this?

He won us the game at the weekend.

All starjumps ever does is lose us games

Dunno what it is about some people with robles. Some people literally dont like him because of some weird reasons even though when he's had a run of games he's proven he's actually a good goalie.

Some fella behind me at west brom actually screamed at him when the goal went in going on about " See he is bloody crap him' only to be shut down by a older blue who informed him he'd kept five clean sheets in a row up until then.

Thanks mate, great memories of still one of my best ever nights following the blues, how good were we from 1-11?:)
What struck me was the confidence in that team before the game. They had confidence in themselves and each other. Great characters in that side: Reid and Gray, allied to brilliant technical footballers: sheedy and Steven, to world class players in their prime such as southall and ratcliffe. It easy to say, but that team had everything and is admired by many football fans and not just evertonians. As you say great memories from a great era.

Yeah mate, and other really underrated lads(although not by us fans!)such as Degsy Mountfield,Brace,Shaggy Stevens(had a great partnership with Tricky Trev)and lads who came seamlessly when needed like Richardson/Harper,I thought we would last forever back then, but now I'm just grateful I saw home and away such a fantastic side in Royal Blue with my very own eyes.:)

Would have lasted a good deal longer if our considerate neighbors hadn't got us booted out of Europe

The thing is shot stopping isn't really why you spend big money on a keeper. Most players in the top couple of divisions will be very good shot stoppers. Especially with reflex saves. There are differences in quality, obviously, but not enough to account for the difference between and £2 million keeper and a £28 million one. Caballero yesterday made a great reflex save, but that doesn't mean he's a great keeper. The money comes for qualities like positioning, distribution, and decision making.

Shay Given always struck me as a great Match Of The Day shot stopper who also routinely played as part of defences with pretty poor records.

Anyone can have a good game... Southall done it for 15 years
