I have seen southall pull out saves that truely left me amazed. His shot stopping even in his later years was amazing , and he even ruined that Geordie weirdo from big brother's dream, of scoring at at james park in the legends match on sky. That was an outstanding save and he had been retired about 10 years and was 10 stone heavier
The thing is shot stopping isn't really why you spend big money on a keeper. Most players in the top couple of divisions will be very good shot stoppers. Especially with reflex saves. There are differences in quality, obviously, but not enough to account for the difference between and £2 million keeper and a £28 million one. Caballero yesterday made a great reflex save, but that doesn't mean he's a great keeper. The money comes for qualities like positioning, distribution, and decision making.
Shay Given always struck me as a great Match Of The Day shot stopper who also routinely played as part of defences with pretty poor records.
