I don't see it. I know this is just going to be interpreted as me defending Howard again, but nothing from yesterday's match makes me think that any nerves or disorganization among our defenders have anything to do with the goalkeeper. When we set out to be clearly organized and defend as a unit, the unit works together (including the goalkeeper), as we saw against Tottenham, Southampton, and Man City (both in the league and in the first leg of the league cup). When we don't, everybody looks like they just met for the first time the day before. That holds just as true for yesterday's match and the one against Barnsley at the beginning of the season as it does for the recent Swansea and Chelsea matches and the Manchester United match (to use only the most egregious examples).

However no one thing will solve all our problems. All we can do is try to make individually good changes which hopefully lead to a combined, improved outcome. Joel is no worse than Howard in any way but is noticeably better in quite a few ways. There was no finer example than when he rushed out and headed the ball yesterday. The EXACT same thing happened with Howard VS Chelsea, where Jags stupidly allowed the second bounce (yes it's not just the keeper at fault), but where Howard made a complete mess of it and allowed an open net, Joel reacted smartly and cleared the danger. That is a perfect example of Joel being an improvement and a goal being saved.

It not affecting the outcome is irrelevant as it's a team game, but man for man Joel is an improvement. And I just want to see us improve.

Possibly the standard of the opposition must be considered.
Playing away against one of the most expensive teams in the world cannot be easy.
