Joel Robles

It's like Martinez gives too much respect to the players who need a kick in the arse and gives no respect to the players who need confidence. It's a little maddening that (coming from a Martinez fan).

Mine wont I aint got any left.

I'm confident Howard will rise to the occasion

He's got a great game in him every now and then when he's truly motivated

However, I fear that will merely paper over the cracks until his next stinker

Robles probably isn't the answer to our goal keeping problems, but I think he's earned a chance to play until he slips up

I'm not happy with Howard coming straight back in, especially when his form has been suspect and Robles will no doubt be in high spirits following the cup win

Howard wont rise for anything but he will always crouch down whilst glued to the goal line..Get in the stcks Joel lad let us see what ya made of.

i think he'll get his chance somewhere in the season. i don't see howard all of a sudden getting form from nowhere, at least much is being made about it in all media outlets etc. That's the luxury our team never normally has. You get things like mignolet, where his clangers were magnified because it was liverpool.

the thing is, i don't really want howard to turn it around. As crass as that sounds, but in the long run, i think robles' commandment of his box and from crosses is what we need with our shortish defence. Also, with howard being 37 we need a permanent replacement NOW, if he has a little upsurge of form that'll knock that priority back a year again. For the good of the club, him making a clanger whilst we score 5 at the other end is the best for our progression.

that sounds pretty bad i know.

Howard, coleman, stones, jagielka, barry, baines, mccarthy and lukaku all seem to be undropable in the games that really matter for martinez

erm, taking howard away who would do any different?

I have no qualms with barry playing in the bigger games, i just think there's half the games in the season where he's not needed and should be rested for fitness issues.
Apart from that there's the best full back partnership in the league, our best centre backs, our engine midfielder (could also do with a rest as well imo) and our star striker who is head and shoulders above the alternatives.

The manager needs to think about the bigger picture, if he picks Howard the pressure on him will be crazy ,and Goodison will be a bear pit sunday.

The decision to retain Howard for the Sunderland match is scandalous, Roberto is basically saying that Howard's errors at Arsenal don't matter and Robles' encouraging and MOTM performance last night matters even less.

Genuine question: wasn't that quote from RM made *before* the game? It's still a bad decision to me but I don't think that comment ignores what he did in the game simply because the quote was in pre-match. Maybe I'm wrong but when I read it on the night (after the game) it sounded like the quote came from pre-game and Robles great performance made the quote seem worse in hindsight (although granted it was bad to begin with).
