No idea. There are those who can look at both sides or a debate, even while supporting one side, and there are those who will only countenance one side of a debate and refuse to even try to see the other side. Maybe it’s an age thing, I don’t know, but it seems that younger elements are less likely to look at both sides…maybe they’ll grow out of it, or maybe the planet is doomed to split into two……
i don't think it's age...i know some youngsters half my age who already understand the news is bollocks, the politicians are all bollocks, and this tribalisation is bollocks.

there is hope...they just need to get off their 'smart'phones.

Mind you the Germans really liked Obama. It was fairly obvious from the beginning that Trump was a bit more Anglophile…….
true...the cult of Obama began here while he was campaigning: he did a speech at Brandenburger Tor before the 2008 election...attracted a huge crowd who were so joyful: they truly thought this man would make the world a better place. Even i did...first alarm bells went off however when he won the Nobel Peace Prize right at the beginning of his first term...then those murderous drone programs...yikes. The unspoken of shame here in Germany is that many of those US drones which killed so many arab civilians launched from a German base (Ramstein).

The world is full of bollocks.

I too am an expert in the field of psychology and diagnosing syndromes and in my extensive research I have found that people who go on about ‘Trump derangement syndrome‘ often seem to suffer from ‘massive wazzock syndrome
also true.

but it's still interesting to note how intense the focus has been against someone who frankly isn't all that remarkeable either way.

it hasn't settled yet, but eventually many books will be written on this phenomenon...I look forward to their take on it.

Biden will be forgotten pretty quickly.

imagine if Trump was President and he handled it the same way: every Republican in the country would be lauding as a hero him for putting American interests ahead of all others, and not cowering in the face of relentless criticism from both Democrats and every other country in the world

accomplished lowest unemployment in 35 years (lowest percentage perhaps, but many people are having to work longer hours than ever, often at multiple jobs, just to get by), lowest minority unemployment in history, tax cuts for middle class (lol, no), increase in wages (not that even come close to keeping up with cost of living increases), USMA, trade deals, brought back manufacturing, China tariffs, reduced trade deficits, Middle East peace deals (giving Israel everything they want and telling the Palestinians to get ****ed isn't a peace deal, IMO), Abraham Accords, increased military strength, no new wars, Space Force (lol), reduced the danger of conflict with North Korea, secured the border, decreased illegal immigration (while committing, in the most generous interpretation, borderline atrocities against children), fewer terror attacks, low gas prices (because the economy collapsed when he chose to abdicate on handling COVID), energy independence, lowered Americas greenhouse gas emissions while growing the U.S. economy, made allies pay their fair share, Three Supreme Court appointments (and in doing so will likely see women and LGBTQ rights set back by two generations in the coming years), hundreds of federal judge appointments (see previous), delivered Covid 19 vaccine in record time (while simultaneously aggressively undermining his supporters trust in it) etc
I assume the "spent two months convincing half the country that they shouldn't trust our election officials and then incited a mob to try and interrupt the democratic process, thereby ending a 250 year unbroken streak of peaceful transfer of power in the US" falls under that cute little etc at the end?

That subject-focus is Afghanistan, not Biden. Think of it like the thread on the Capitol riots.

The Derangement Syndrome doesn't work both ways.

Trump got slated in the Capitol riots thread though, and you were claiming he (Biden) wasn't being criticised because of bias or something. Clearly, a 90 page thread where US policy - and his in particular - gets trashed is clear proof that you were once again talking rubbish.

That's because Trump did a good job: ensuring short/medium-term stability while providing the crucial end-date. He's on record many times that his administration would've first pulled out the civilians/equipment, then the army. It was a sound plan, and everyone of sound mind was happy with it.

Hence, no one here really mentioning it.

Biden did it all tits up. With serious consequences, for years to come. But as voting for him represented the anti-Trump vote he will likely get away with it (e.g. we now see the initially critical mainstream media easing off). Being anti-Trump is still influencing matters. Being anti-Biden clashes with that. That's what this intense tribalisation has done to our collective judgement.

No, he didn't. All Trump achieved was no attacks on NATO forces - the Taliban were still attacking the ANA, and given what we saw in May they were almost certainly preparing for what would happen when (according to the deal Trump signed) NATO forces did leave. He also didn't take many steps to removing the civilians / equipment first (remember he was still President in January, when this should have been well underway).

see what i mean...and 99% all extremely critical. Yet during his run he achieved a bunch, here one commenter on another site put some together:

-----

i also half-expect history to be kind to the Donald...but we first need that step in the right direction. Biden needs to be impeached.

It was extremely critical because, shock horror, it should have been. Trump was a President who spoke appallingly, made numerous gaffes, who loaded the economy with nearly $8 trillion of debt in four years, who completely mishandled what is the defining crisis of the past twenty years and who refused to accept an election result.

See Pete, you're completely unwilling to hold your hero to account for being an utter abomination of a human being. I fear he could go full Lawrence Fox and you'd find a way to defend him.

Defend him from what Bruce. Having cameras there ? Not being sombre enough ? Making stupid small talk ? He is what he is. Now how was it viewed by the people actually in the room. Might they have been impressed that both the PM and Foreign Sec actually bothered to pay them a visit ? Do we see the whole of the visit and discussions on camera ? Should I arrange pitchforks and burning torches and descend upon Downing St because he bumped elbows. So precisely what is it that you have taken great offence about in this clip…..

Indeed. A bumbling, unprofessional, entitled oaf who you elected to represent us on the global stage. This isn't the thing to hang him for, it's merely yet another example of how unfit for office he is.
