This was reported on 6ABC. It is no secret that ABC lean to the left, and they still print STATISTICS. Philadelphia has been a Democratic city for years. The current mayor (Jim Kenny) and the District Attorney (Larry Krasner) are far left. There is a brand new police chief who came from outside the existing departmental structure. When existing laws are ignored, when the criminal element see that Law Enforcement's hands are tied they wreak havoc and the crime rate explodes. The biggest victims are poor people who are usually minorities and live in these neighborhoods. All of these groups (BLM Antifa) should head down to inner city Philadelphia and help the good people down there.

Jacksonville, FL has been dominated for the last 25 years by GOP mayors (only 1 4-year exception) and it has one of the highest violent crime rates in the country. The most violent city in my state is Beaumont, headed by a GOP mayor since 2007. You want more stats? From the 2018 FBI Uniform Crime Report the 10 states with the highest violent crime rate are as follows: Alaska, New Mexico, Tennessee, Arkansas, Nevada, Louisiana, Alabama, Missouri, South Carolina and Arizona. Of those states, only 2 (NM and NV) voted for Clinton.

6 of those states are totally dominated, politically, by the GOP (AZ, SC, MO, AL, AR, TN). They control the Governor's mansion and both houses of the state legislature. Only 3 of those states have Democratic governors. Only 2 are controlled, Gov and Lege, by Dems (NV, NM). Louisiana has a Dem Gov but the Lege is overwhelmingly GOP.

Every bit of this discussion is irrelevant, though. The current occupant of the White House wants credit for everything good that has happened in the last 4 years (and some things that came before - such as Veteran's Choice) but takes no responsibility for anything that has gone wrong.

He's utterly childish. He says he wants to be the country's cheerleader. Screw that. The job is to be the damn quarterback and he's failed. Miserably.

U.S. CDC reports coronavirus deaths increase by 1,006 to 182,149

The number of deaths caused by the novel coronavirus rose by 1,006 to 182,149 people, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Sunday, reporting a total of 5,934,824 cases, an increase of 44,292 from its previous count.

CDC total is 182k, but generally agreed to be less accurate than the totals from each individual states which is 187k.

Of course if you look at the variation excess deaths (which most statisticians agree is more accurate again) you’re looking at ~250k

Also, given the beating that the CDC have given to their own credibility via their actions in the last couple of weeks, I’d maybe not lean on them too much.

Completely unfair to Nero, IMO. Right now, I’d happily take him sitting idly by, playing his fiddle as the country burns. What Trump has done the past few months is the functional equivalent of walking around with a lit cigarette in his mouth, all while dousing everything in gasoline.

But he didn’t halt it. Americans and green card holders were allowed back, non-citizen family members were allowed, some business travel was allowed, students were allowed. Straight up tourists were about the only folks that couldn’t get an exception.

Additionally, there was little to no screening for anyone coming into the country.

Foreign nationals were barred from entering the U.S. if they had visited China within the past two weeks.

Even after the order went into effect on February 2, some 40,000 people – traveling on 279 flights – have arrived in the U.S. from China, according to the analysis from the New York Times based on data collected in both countries.

Not to mention, the way he handled further tightening travel restrictions in mid-March probably turned out to be nothing short of calamitous. People had maybe 72 hours at most to get back into the country before the borders were closed altogether. This caused a panic where everyone was understandably getting on any flight they could find back to the US, which then led to such a crush of people at the airports that you had people with no masks and no means of social distancing standing in line for as much as 12 hours to clear customs. I don’t know that there will ever be any hard data, but that series of events could easily been some sort of mega-spreader of the virus that allowed a potentially still manageable situation here to spiral out of control.
