Whats going on?
It's only the begining of June and we've already signed 2 people. What about the last minute scramble that we are so used to!!

How much did he actually cost?

These 2 articles are on today's What The Papers Say on the website:

EVERTON boss David Moyes has boosted his firepower by landing Portuguese striker Joao Silva on a three-year deal.

The 20-year-old from Portuguese side Desportivo das Aves has joined Leeds’ Jermaine Beckford in the battle for places up front at Goodison Park.

Everton chiefs flew to Portugal to conclude a transfer that has been in the pipeline for months.

Silva, who cost around £3.5m, was the second top scorer in Portugal’s second tier last term.

The young hitman scored 14 goals in 32 games in his first season as a professional.

He has yet to feature in Portugal’s first team but has played for their Under-20s and is expected to get full honours after the World Cup.

DAILY STAR

EVERTON have snapped up rookie Portuguese hitman Joao Silva in a cut-price £50,000 swoop.

Silva, 20, was second top scorer in his country's second division last term, bagging 14 goals for Desportivo Das Aves in his first season as a pro.

Goodison officials sealed the three-year deal after flying to Portugal.

Silva, a Portuguese Under-20 international, said: "To play in the Premier League is a dream for any footballer because it is the best in the world.

"I believe England will be perfect for me - it will be an enormous move but I am ambitious and will stay positive.

"Everton are a great club with great players."

Silva will link up with his new team-mates in July for their pre-season tour of Australia.

THE SUN

What the f***???

Nice words in the echo today:

ANOTHER striker joins up this summer, and already there are optimistic rumblings that David Moyes has unearthed the latest in a long line of hidden gems.

Joao Silva was unheard of until rumours of Everton’s interest first surfaced in the winter.
But speak to Portuguese football journalists and they describe a talent who has been long-talked about as a future star.

The 20-year-old joined Desportivo De Aves’ academy aged 10, and his rise has gone far from unnoticed, culminating with him receiving the highest praise a centre forward can receive in Portugal. They compare him to Pauleta.

Now, for a nation which has produced greats such as Eusebio and Cristiano Ronaldo, admittedly many would wonder what the big deal is about comparisons to a relatively low-profile striker who never actually played in Portugal’s top flight.
Pauleta scored 48 goals in 88 matches for the national side, and 33 goals in a single season for Paris St Germain. So, high praise indeed for Silva.

The veteran by all accounts was not an outstanding player in terms of overall ability, but in front of goal he was lethal. How Everton have cried out for a player like that.
Let’s hope that Goodison Park really is about to witness the new Pauleta wreaking havoc on defences up and down the country.

He's quite fast, two footed and heads well. It may well tke him 2/3 years to get to premiership standard, if he can.
It's a calculated risk transfer. He could end worth millions, or maybe he'll get a free transfer to Bury.
For this kind of money looks like a transfer which can potentially pay off, slightly more optimistic now... but it's maybe because I was worried about people from Portugal telling me he's [Poor language removed]...

Played and scored for Portugal U21s!

Some highlights if anyone wants to have a gander, looked bright, Bebe also played up front:
