I think there are quite a few better captains than Neville to be honest.

Morning Toxteth Blue,

Just to clarify, I didnt mean with regards to football ability. Also, I am speaking with extremely blue tinted glasses on this morning lol

I was pondering club Captains at the other teams and I just feel Phil does us proud.

Anyway, apologies. This was off topic.

Arsenal- Fabergas
Aston Villa- Laurson/Barry (If he stays)
Blackburn- Nelsen
Bolton- Davis
Chelsea- Terry
Everton- Phil Neville
Fulham- Mc Bride/Murphy/Hangeland
Hull- Ashbee
Liverpool- Gerrard
Man City- Dunne
Man Utd- Gary Neville
Middlesborough- Pogatetz
Newcastle- Owen
Portsmouth- Campbell
Stoke- Griffin
Sunderland- Whitehead
Tottenham- King
West Ham- Neill
West Brom- Greening
Wigan- Melchiot

Youd have to say hes up there with Gerrard, Terry and Laursan.

A lot of better players, but better captians hmm!

No problem mate, it's all about opinions at the end of the day.

Phil has had a great season, his best by a mile. In terms of leadership he is a very good captain and his attitude is spot on.

In terms of impact less so, compared to other players. If he keeps his consistency up though I do think he's the best choice at the club in terms of being captain.

I like Pip, hes the only 1 that comes and claps the GSE at the end of the game, win, lose or draw. Hes took his football to another level this season as well. Fair play to the lad.

And in respect to Jo, unless we have a LOT of money to spend or unless City will take £1m a season for the next 10 years, we cant really afford to spend money on him.

I think we should close the thread with this.

After reading the article, I desperatly want him to succeed at Everton. Says a lot about our club. The team spirit clearly is second to none. Shows that money is not always the answer.

I'd love to see him succeed and there's no doubt there is some ability in there somewhere.

Unfortunately we haven't exactly been in the situation to bring the best out of him, operating with a midfield low on creativity.

Either way, City and Jo will want a decision by the end of the season. I can see it turning out to be a Manny mark II, I'd like to think City being in their current financial situation would allow us for a small fee to take him for the whole of next season on loan so we can make a much more informed decision on whether to splash the cash, because so far he simply hasn't done enough to cost £11 million, then again who would after 4 months!

There's a lot of sentiment creeping in, and there's nothing wrong with it as a fan but despite all this talk of team spirit and him finding his home, I'm glad we have a man as shrewd as Moyes making the final decision. It's nice he has found his feet with us and I love it when players declare their love of the club and it's fans but this is a money decision and should be made based on whether Jo will be a good investment for us.

I completely agree. He simply hasn't done enough to warrant an £11 million transferfee. In the end we can't sentiments influence the decision about what's right for Everton. That's why I said I hope he succeeds at Everton. If he doesn't prove his worth, we simply cant take such a big risk. Has to show a lot more in the coming matches to warrant paying such a hefty fee though.
