Sports Science is pretty well advanced from even 10-15 years ago the chances of huge muscle wastage occurring in elite sportsmen is minute nowadays. There’s examples in other sports of equally long lay offs with players slotting back in. Injuries like Coleman suffered and even Barkley further back used to be career ending.

Players that are out for 6 months aren't bedridden for 6 months then suddenly pop back on the pitch in a PL game.

....whilst his situation is unfortunate, he’s under a magnificent contract whilst not being able to work. Money isn’t everything but there are significantly more people to feel sorry for in these miserable times
