January Transfer Window 2026

Perhaps because he was being lined up to be transferred? Let’s see how the selections unfold for the rest of the season. We’ve played McNeil a lot more than we should have for a player who wanted out last summer.

….McNeil was hooked at half-time against Leeds and has not seen game time since because of his part in Leeds goal, I’d be very sure about that.

Plenty of other teams that managed to sign a player this window without leaving it to the last minute as well.

Our recruitment department isn't fit for purpose.
Plenty that haven't aswell. I've said before, i'm not defending the recruitment as such. I just don't really see this window as a big deal. It is difficult to do good deals in January, it's not impossible but it's difficult, and this is a generally accepted fact which all clubs and people involved in the game agree on. There have been times in recent years where that wasn't an acceptable excuse for us, we needed deals to get done to aid the very survival of the club, but this year if the deals aren't there I don't have any issue with us hanging fire until the summer. Obviously they will then be judged on how well the summer window goes, and if we fail to do what we need to do then i'll be just as critical as I was last summer. For me personally though, I don't have a major issue with them not doing much in this window as a standalone issue.

It's difficult but not impossible and we have a need and desire to improve this squad so I expect that the recruitment department will find a solution as that's why we employ them.

To come out of this window with just a single loan will mark this as the second disappointing window under Angus Kinnear's leadership for me.

It's not good enough.

We're top half and a couple of astute signings would almost certainly get us a Euro spot.

Moyes + the Exceptional Operators have shat the bed here.

They have less than 90 minutes to get some signings done in order to avoid criticism.
