January Transfer Window 2026

What would it say about the owners AND Moyes' ambition if he stayed on after been given nout to spend???
On what basis are you making the assumption that it’s the owners not putting money in that’s the problem?
Isn’t it more likely ‘Dithering’ is the problem, seeing all the players we are supposedly watching and ‘have an interest in’ have been quickly snapped up by other clubs?

Yeah it staggers me how people keep thinking it’s the owners. We have a manager who has said that the club has been searching for a right back for over a year, he has final say and there is money plus it’s been a difficult window. There’s something off about our expectations in who we bring in - it would not take much to improve our right back considerably given there’s a world of footballers out there. All the owners can do is ensure there is cash flow, the rest is up to the board, the recruitment team and Moyes.

if the window closes at 7pm with no signings…

There is a possibility TFG have made their mind up on the direction of the club and it does not include Moyes beyond May.
Why give him money if he isn’t being going to be here.

If however Moyes stays beyond May, then i’d find it very odd and concerning that when in a real position to get a European place…TFG didn’t give the go ahead to sign players, not even a loan player to boost our chances. Or correct glaring issues like LB.

We have a chance to hugely push the progress of the club! Hope we don’t come to regret it!
I thought this at first but reports seem to suggest we'll have another healthy budget in the summer so if spending now means eating heavily into that summer budget it looks like they’re happy to go with what they’ve got. Particularly when players have an added premium when buying in January. I don’t agree with the decision as there’s a brilliant opportunity to get into Europe ahead of schedule but clearly the board are happy to stick to the plan. Think we’ll massively regret it should we not reach Europe this season but let’s wait and see.

I think this has always been the situation from when he signed and agreed by the club and Moyes, he gets the first year at HD then the club will go in a new direction.

For me i hope so too.

We have spent years spending too much money on average overpriced overpaid players, we are trying to get away from that model.

Clubs do not want to sell their best players in the January window and to force a club to sell you have to pay a huge premium, we even see this with players who are out of contract shortly still commanding fees.

Something may happen yet but if not I would be happier to wait until the summer and buy the players to make us better.

Sure it’s underwhelming but I’d rather get the right players in than just scatter gun approaching it, like we have historically.

Good management is making good decisions at the right time. If the summer is the right time that’s fine, but changes must come.

This squad does need a lot of work.

I’d accept this if we didn’t have a plop summer window. We’d been after a right winger since…. Can’t even remember the last decent one we had. And landed on over paying for Dibling and the manager doesn’t rate him enough for us to even see enough of him to have an opinion on

Southampton didn’t “pull our pants down”, we chose to pay it because someone at Everton decided the price Southampton was asking for reflected his worth.
Other midfielders were available at other prices.
Isn’t that the definition of having someone’s pants down ? Getting someone to believe that something is worth a lot more than it is ? Then paying that price to

Don’t want to end up with another Walcott/Tosun situation who must have cost a fortune over their contracts.

Surely we could try pip Lille? Unless he’s just a nob

Apparently before he left Aston Villa there were a slew of incidents due to his negative demeanor which basically hastened his departure there.
From the Athletic: "Duran has, occasionally, been a disruptive presence. There were instances of him turning up late and disturbing team meetings. His attitude had been noted by multiple sources, who felt he could stray dangerously close to breaching Villa’s disciplinary standards, which were set by leaders in the dressing room."

So I'd imagine with him making all these abrupt moves in a short amount of time ,his disruptive tendencies have just become more prevalent since he was at Villa , it would probably be best to swerve.

Even with the above I’d certainly gamble on him if a loan for remainder of season. Disruptive influences tend to start well, and once settled in become disruptive. I’d hope with four month left we’d get the positives before the negatives kick in. Alas it looks like a perm deal is being agreed which would not be an option for us.

He's a bad apple.

One bad apple can completely destroy a dressing room.

No disrespect to Lile, but I`d wager that this why no bigger clubs have come in for him.

Spending £50m on a striker in this window was never going to be an option. Getting a striker in on loan capable of doing a job for us, and letting Beto go, could have been an option.
