January Transfer Window 2026

Different strokes and all that. If that’s important to you then I get why you’re not happy with them. I don’t expect love and affection from them, nor will they get it from me. I just want them to make my footy team better and then flog us to someone even richer when that happens so we can get better again.
I want us fighting for stuff...it has been too long without a title, even a small cup, anything...

Summer will have new financial rules in place as psr will not apply anymore. I would have been tempted to use all the psr room left now (which we do not know if any, I guess it would depend on the sale of women's team/goodison last year) as in the summer rules are changing anyway. Not sure how big we can go in the summer...
Depends on what you consider "going big" to be or look like. I doubt spending ~£100m in the summer will be a problem, but then that's pretty much par for the course these days. The promoted teams will probably that kind of number on trying to stay up, let alone the established clubs and competative ones.

The question is what do we get for our spend.

I'm sure TFG will utilize whatever resources are available, but that also doesn't mean they're going to be throwing money around without a plan like Moshiri or spending unnecessarily if they don't have to. We're not in the market for the top players, and we clearly have a model focused on young players with significant potential as long term investments (mixed with a few senior/experienced pros) and that'll stay the approach as part of a multi-year rebuild.

If we are saving money for a big spend in the summer then it suggests they have some sort of actual plan in place, that's a fairly new concept for us and it might be worth waiting to see what happens. We should be ok once everyone comes back into the squad and imo can probably give euro places a good push as it's a fairly close table atm.

Unless we sign a full back it’s probably the right choice to sign no one, if the long term plan is Grealish then who are we gonna get and for what cost to replace him for the rest of the season? In terms of strikers, there’s very few scoring at rates worthy of the role in the PL currently, so unless we get a “dead cert” then no point in another gamble. 15 games left, in a great position (by our standards) in the league. Just see the season out, sign Grealish and then full focus on replacing Gana, a striker, 2 full backs and a CB.

Newcastle are owned by the weathiest nation/investment fund on the planet, and their ceiling pretty much hits at just about being able to usually get into the UCL places and get around cup semi finals ish.

Not knocking that, it's a better achievement than we've done in a long time and I can understand why many of their fans consider that success and are delighted to be "in the mix" with the big boys, but if an elite coach and the backing of a state with unlimited funds can't truly gatecrash or dominate the top table, it wont matter too much what billionaire's name is above our door when we hit our ceiling, just like Villa are finding out.

Newcastle got a pot. If we can get one too before i pop my clogs, that’ll do for me.

With this current team, two poor strikers will cost us Europe, our right backs won’t.

i disagree, lots of our problems come from lack of creating chances and a lack of balance and pace and movement in the side

earlier in the season when beto and barry were missing sitters yes i would have agreed. now we have barry taking the very few chances we create

without grealish our ability to create chances is even more harmed

Bring back Yakubu 🎉

listening to the good times everton podcast on the 07/08 season and even though we were skint then it was absolutely brilliant that we were able to bring in the striker who was one of, if not the best striker in the league at the time outside of those playing regularly in europe over a number of years

who would that be this summer? danny welbeck? raul jiminez? mateta? chris wood?

not exactly an inspiring list

The best chance of getting into the Champions league for us is probably via the Conference and Europa league.

And the best chance of getting into the conference league could well be this season. We are right in the mix - and a signing or two could really get us in.

That’s why I’m frustrated at the window.
If TFG are going to keep Moyes till the end of his contract, then they should invest in a couple of full backs and possibly a defensive midfielder this window or some loans. If they're going to make a switch in the summer then holding off on permanent signings makes sense.

Danny Welbeck is injured more often than our previous striker who was always injured, Raul Jiminez hasn't been the same striker he was since his injury years ago, and Wood has had about 1 decent season in his entire career. All over 30 years old with Mateta apparently off to Juventus because he's had one decent spell in the last few years.

I wanna know how is it Brentford went and found that Thiago lad who is banging them in every week... and Ivan Toney before him... and Ollie Watkins before him. Perhaps we should be trying to sign the Brentford scouting department?! 👍
