January Transfer Window 2026

There's no reasonable argument to suggest we should be finishing 7th or 8th after four successive relegation battles when we spent the 13th most of any team (in gross terms) in the summer.

I suspect you're being disingenuous here so you can set a narrative that Moyes has failed somehow when he inevitably fails to achieve that.

Forest did better than that a season or so back. They were on for a CL spot at one point too.

Everton had a net spend of £95M + Grealish.

Dyche was selling players here and got us 48 points. Last season we got 48 points.

In those last two seasons another 12 points got you 8th.

Are you saying we shouldn't expect us to get another 12 points having strengthened the squad with a world class player and 6 others brought in?

In all seriousness I think the notion that we have a screaming deficiency at full back would have invoked a high performing club to have their ducks lined up when the window opened, and fix that issue. I’m sure there’s caveats or reason but I’d very much like that Everton who operate in a dynamic way in the window. It would give Evertonians confidence that this time it’s different.

Still, two weeks to go so getting the right players at the right value must be the objective.

Ducks in line ? Everton ? Daffy and Donald springs to mind, quack, quack, Ozzy Carting, young reserve Goalkeeper 'kin quack.

I'm saying that you're ignoring the fact that this is all relative and ignores everyone else as well, particularly as the league is so bunched this season.

Four successive relegation scraps and you are demanding Europe the following season? You know full well that that's an unfair and unrealistic expectation - there's no rational argument as to why we *should* be finishing above Brighton, Brentford, Newcastle, Chelsea, Spurs or even Bournemouth or Palace. We may finish above some of them, but setting that out as a target which should be achieved in the first season after 4 years of chaos stands up to no scrutiny at all.

60 points is another 31 points, I have a feeling that the 12 points more than last season ship has sailed.. Last 2 home games were winnable or cretanly 4 points might have been acceptable.. Branthweight returning and the AFCON players coming back might give us a slight bit of hope, still need a signing or 2 in my opnion, I would say that 29 points after 21 games is dissapointing.

The more things change the more they stay the same

A money club would’ve paid whatever asking price to get in the fullback we desperately need on January 2nd (let the hangovers happen we’re not monsters) but you know we’re haggling and trying to save 5-10m whilst on our worst run of results of the season

If we get the right player on deadline day for a good fee then they’ll say they did the right thing but also, we were supposed to be looking for a RB in the summer and brought in nobody even though supposedly money was there to be spent

No, I'm demanding top ten this season; Europe next season.

Which isn't unreasonable at all. Take a look at who's qualifying for Europe these days.

I don’t think it is,other teams such as Villa even Forest last season have broken through to the European places from relegation scraps, the league in general is poor it is overhyped as “the best” but the standard in general is certainly not, frustration comes from the opportunities we ourselves have already had recently to cement ourselves in fifth or sixth position which we have carelessly through our own faults cast aside.

We were 3 points off 5th going into Christmas and lost all 3 of the players who played behind the striker, who undoubtedly are our best attacking players and make all the difference.

I am very confident that we would be in a much better position had those players all been available, even with a makeshift right back and Branthwaite still not available.

You need to make your mind up...
With our better players back we should be getting toward a euro spot: 7th or at worst 8th.
Top 10 is a fair target (although if we got 11th or 12th, I'd hardly cry about it as long as we were only falling short by the odd point or two), as I think it's fair to want progress on last season.

Saying we should be getting Europe if we have our better players back is not fair, however.

The fact that Forest did it once is an exception which proves the rule (look at them this season). It's like saying Leicester won the league after surviving a relegation scrap, so there's no reason we shouldn't be doing the same.

I don't want to defend some of our failings too much, but there's no rational reason for setting expectation levels at European qualification this season. If it happened, we'd be overachieving based on our starting point and transfer dealings.
