January Transfer Window 2026

What did you expect to happen last Jan immediately after a sacking ?

That window can't be counted..

You don't want him here and that's fair enough, but the point of that post is it takes time, no matter who is in charge..

What did I expect to happen when the club were in talks for 2 full backs?

I expected the new manager to look at the squad, and team and see that with Patterson injured we had no right back. Also only one left back.

If he didnt want to sign one permanently then we could have loaned one, e.g Kayode from Fiorentina who went to Brentford later.

Choosing not to add to this was the managers decision.

One window gone.

Second window, still no new right full back options. I'll count Aznou as giving us 2 left back options even though the manager has treated him terribly.

We were told by Boyland that the funds available were £200mil. No excuses.

Third window ?

So, were now in our 3rd window 12months on from Moyes terminating discussions for 2 full backs.

Edit: If the 1st window "cant be counted" does Alcaraz not exist?

We'd have been lower in the table last season but for him.

Fair dos it's pretty pathetic to have Seamus Coleman, at 67 years of age and permanently injured, as the 'senior' right back in the squad, and the only other natural right back pretty much hated by the manager and only played when his hand is forced. Tantamount to a war crime to be honest, having not bought a proper full back for years despite everybody knowing we're desperate for one - on both sides of the field.

Wasn't this Sundays gossip Eggs?

….saw it was mentioned yesterday but it was in BBCs Monday round-up.

No idea why people both posting 'rumours' from BS websites like Football Insider or News Now. My dad thinks that anything in News Now is basically kosher.

….its a transfer rumour and this is a transfer thread, posters can determine the credibility of the source but this one informed discussion yesterday. Personally, I like a rumour regardless of source so welcome them being put on here

The Piv needs to look at what Sunderland did in one window, easy to relate to Villa, so don't agree whatsoever

Look at what Carlo did in his season here, not far off it at Christmas then fell off a cliff? to finish 10th?

100%. This whole we can't accept any criticism for not signing a full back or any pace at all, or being content with the embarrassing performances at home is just bizarre.

I think it's unwise to use Sunderlands recruitment as a guide to be honest, way too early to judge their recruitment. Sure its helped them stay up comfortably but if they're still doing as well this time next season then sure big their recruitment up
I’d argue it’s more the manager than the recruitment. Guaranteed if we bought some of their players last summer people would have been moaning it wasn’t a big enough signing etc.

Le Bris seems to be telling his team to give no respect - they aren’t scared of playing anyone. It’s worked for the most part. Mad to think they were lucky against cov last season

You could also look at it as a window they used to try and ensure premier league survival, and that future windows will be used to improve the quality of the squad yet further, only time will tell but they appear to have ensured their survival easily and it will be the next few windows that shows just how good they are at recruitment. The one thing that appears to have been ensured by their recruitment (admittedly i know very little about their squad in depth) is that there are no gaping holes i.e. no right back etc.

How many times have we seen a team come up a do well for a season then fall off a cliff? We are doing ok, not great but I didn't expect it to be, if it is that easy to fix all of a team problems why doesn't every team do it? Moyes has said already that lots of players simply did not want to come, Dibling, Rohl, Aznou etc where probably 4-5 choice on a list, so you either buy nothing or you buy players you have to work with and be patient?
The striker situation for me is the big one we should not of started the season with the two we have they are way short of what was needed.
Lets see how the rest of the season plays out, still in the mix for Europe (long shot), frustrating but the only surprise is that people are surprised!

I forgot about that.

So Moyes rejected, Sanchez, Truffert & Wesley so far at full back.

If those are the known ones i wonder how many more there have been
.

Well its simply not true.

It isnt "one summer window and a third of Jan". In 3 days time it will be two and a half transfer windows as he's ignored January last year.
No they are not known. Stop talking bollocks.

Your hate for Moyes is embarrassing now.

Wasn’t one window though with Sunderland, they also spent big on the Championship even though they weren’t expecting promotion
