January Transfer Window 2026

We have a limited budget. We're not going to qualify for the Champions League whoever we sign. We're not in danger of relegation and we have players due back from injury/AFCON who will improve us. If we think we can get better players for better value in the summer I would sooner wait. Bad decisions on transfer have lasting repercussions. I don't want us to buy another fullback as bad as Myko who was a January signing.
Agree with this Kev. Let's face it we're going to finish lower mid table and we'll probably lose in the cup this weekend with the missing players Grealish, Ndiaye and Dewsbury-Hall who are basically our attacking creativity. No point making panic signings and just wait til the summer where hopefully we'll get in the right player instead

Its always difficult to sign players in January even more so when the AFCON is on as squads are depleted. Has this excuse been rolled out yet?

Or maybe just maybe we have someone lined up to play on the opposite side of the pitch to Left Back (no rules broken), but they are playing in the AFCON so agreement cant be signed until after

I’m sure they’ve briefed that one out at some point, as they will about how tough the summer market is going to be because of the World Cup. Once again, expecting us to be woefully underprepared going into pre-season, we might even get our annual Tyler Onyango cameo again.

You sound like you've already been converted to accept anything the club want you to think.

There's a whole world of players not just the Premier lge that would jump at the chance to play in this league for any club.

Bournemouth , Brentford & Brighton show how consistantly it can be down.

Its all down to recruitment and planning , something we dont seem to have.
No. I just don't think everything is as simple as some people think and I don't automatically think everyone at the club is incompetent.

….he brought in KDH, Grealish, Dibling, Barry, Rohl and Alcaraz in the summer, I assume they are who you mean as ‘Moyes type players’?

Criticism of the summer window in general is entirely justified given the failure (so far) of big money deals for Dibling and Barry, I just struggle with categorisation of players the manager likes.
I refuse to say that Dibling, Barry's or anyone's transfer is a failure based on a handful of appearances, halfway through the first season of what are multi year contracts

Judge the success or failure when they come to leave, anything else is just noise

We can plan to buy x, y or z but if the player doesn't want to come or the club that owns him doesn't want to sell him for a price that we find acceptable that isn't really a failure of planning is it?

Well it is, because we shouldn't be spending that much time scouting a player without looking into a ball park value..
Look at the club, look at recent sales, are they more of a selling club.
How are they looking financially.
If we put a benchmark figure we will go to, than dont scout a player with that much of a higher valuation..

God i'm getting desperate by Using the points above..

2 red cards and it brings me to this..

….DCL only cost £1m. Stones, Branthwaite, Holgate, Lookman. We’ve probably done ok with those types in recent times.

One thing to add about the plan to wait for the right player, how do you convince the likes of Ndiaye,Garnered or Branthwaite ti wait around because they will have offers from far more ambitious clubs.
Writing off another 6 months and another campaign may be acceptable to some fans but players have a limit on their careers and the 3 mentioned will be looking to move on if they don't see some signs of ambition.

But what will we talk about if we have to wait for players contracts to expire to judge them
