January Transfer Window 2026

Its not about completing it in one window or 2 windows, it's about who we bring in being effective. If the summer is anything to go by, it would take about 6 windows to get things right as it looks like 2 out of every ten signings will be a hit, whilst a couple of others the jury is out and then the others look like mistakes.

We have to be far smarter with our money otherwise we'll never get anywhere.

Tbf think moyes even said it himself that he was shocked at just how unattractive a project everton was in the summer.

Id imagine that alot of the players we brought in were 3rd,4th or even 5th choice maybe.

We wanted delap over barry, dibling was at least 3rd choice, we wanted another cb and to let keane go but we had to resign keane.

I think at some point a decision was made to focus on good young prospects and to bleed them through into the squad over the course of the season. Rather then bring in players ready to go.

Imagine how different the team would look with delap upfront, conceicao RW, tete RB, ndiaye LW and grealish behind the striker (which was where grealish was talked about playing when he first came in).

So personally i think the recruitment team were decent in the summer just Everton wasn't a good enough proposition with where we've been the last few years unfortunately.

Think Iroegbunam has improved, his last 2 performances have been much better and he will give Gana a run for his money if he keeps this level up. Dibling has not shown enough in his appearances but is still young so fingers crossed, Alcaraz has disimproved in my view although maybe thats because we are comparing him to better players such as KDH and Grealish that we didnt have last year.

This really.

As the level of player goes up so does our expectations of player performance for the squad.

McNeil, gana, mykolenko and beto have been shown up a bit this season for the level their at and the level we want them to be.

McNeil and beto have already been replaced. Id argue so has gana in our fully fit starting XI and i can see mykolenko wither being sold in jan or leaving on a free in the summer.

Either way id be surprised if those 4 are here next season. Who ahve all been so important for us over the years because simply they arent at the level we want to be.

The worry for me is/was

They wanted Delap, they got a completely different profile of forward in Barry

They wanted Fofana/Conceicao, they got a completely different profile of player

They went for Tete, they never went for another right back and Moyes happily confirmed that he was happy to have Coleman and Patterson as back up to Obrien.

It was a scattergun approach imo and one which will cost us a chance of Europe of we dont try and remedy it in January.

You just try to buy the best players you can with the money available. I don't think it's as simple as we need a right back so we move down a list of targets until we find one willing to join us for a price we are prepared to pay. That's the way to get a truly mediocre squad.
