January Transfer Window 2026

Did make me lol with his line about only signing players who would 'crawl over broken glass to play for the shirt'.

As if we didn't spend a month sending increasingly desperate texts to Fofana who clearly thought we were a bit sad

Thought this was also a bit weird mate:

“The renewals of Michael Keane and, football’s own Benjamin Button, Idrissa Gana Gueye, have proven to be sound decisions marrying data and coaching input to retain talent that might have otherwise been overlooked.”

Both have been here the best part of a decade - I’m not sure what data or coaching input that would have been overlooked.

A half decent RB or a striker that knows where the back of the net is every once in a while make a huge difference to this current team. However I do understand the reluctance to get involved in the January window.
The need for a RB and to a slightly lesser extent a left back aren’t a luxury purchases…the are and have been for 12-18 months a god damn necessity!

They stunt our attacks going forward, make our backline very uneven and are with a lack of goals our main weakness and are constantly being targeted by the opposition.

The club have been a homeowner who see’s a problem developing and does nothing until its too late…no forward planning, a make do a mend attitude.

Which is why we have a 36 year old RB, a 6’5 CB playing RB. A kid too young to play LB and a LB who gets a nose bleed if he goes past the half way line.

Fair comments apart from the fact we just built a new home as the old one was getting old but now have a mini portfolio.

Now that’s a bit like number 10s under Koeman

Sorry but this time even you have to remove "Data" from the factor of retaining players, we have coached and watched these lads for years..

I dont think our team needs data to show their attributes, or they would have picked up on gana having a pooh season..

Yes we did build a new ground…and its surprisingly good…but that was our 5th or 6th attempt….equally BM nearly bankrupted us because the owner started it without the funds to finish it!!

Like i said no forward planning

He signed both Soucek and of course Arteta in Jan windows. Both loans with options.

I expect he'll be after 2 loan players and a right back permanent deal.

I think we will defo see a loan or two mate.

January is a marginal gains window, like Charly last year - he gave us that little bit of an extra dimension to tip one or three results our way- that’s what I’d be hoping for again.

Where the window lands in the Football calendar with a World Cup in the summer, there will be good players looking for exposure and mins, there will be
opportunities IMO this window.

Agreed & the world cup is interesting.

The 2 moroccan right backs weve been linked with are not going to AFCON so i imagine they may feel that starting in the premier league gives them more exposure.

Also players at top teams may want to loan one or two out.

We do have new staff as well so perhaps there may be some players that City were watching,or in their youth teams we may move for.

He just wanted to mention a couple of those who extended and that they used data metrics to see the benefits of keeping them.

Typical thing of mentioning people in a speech to make them feel valued.

Now we know why several new signings arent playing.

He has to bring in a RB.

He’s spoofing though mate, the club had a deal lined up for Webster at Brighton to replace Keane, Davey intervened and convinced the club to resign Keane.

Oh 100% and he'll be 31 in Jan. Another Tete type stop gap signing.

We need pace in defence and need to look across the back 4 to improve ready for next season - but Webster & Tete were sticking plasters.

So its doubly amusing that he also mentioned "exceptional" players for January. Because we certainly wouldnt consider McGinn, Soucek, Webster, Tete or Ramsey "exceptional" players last summer.

Its partly due to this i think we'll make one signing at the very least. I dont think they'll want to be seen as messing up 2 windows.

Or do they think the summer window was a success??

I think they tried to spin a lot of plates in the summer and plan for the medium and long term, i think we were perhaps over confident and had our cough softened by our top targets and that limited us. I think they wanted players 23/24 - when that didnt happen, they had to change midstream and go for teenagers in Dibling and Aznou for example.

Im not totally unaware that our reputation was in the toilet following the Moshiri years, so i dont think we were that attractive to targets.

We need to learn from that in future windows.

I think if you have long term plan and you execute it, you have to back - elsewise what's the point - so id back the likes of Dibling, Rohl, Aznou and Barry for sure.

I see a couple of loans this window mate. If im honest im not a huge fan of permanent signings in Jan.

Tbf, we started on site before the oligarchs were sanctioned. I’m not at all suggesting that there was a funding strategy in place at commencement however…

Mcginn, tete, and ramsey would all have been very good for us. Ramsey hasn't broken inti Newcastle but he was great for villa and young.
