Truth is he really should be speaking out like this. I love him, but dude come on.

It was a joy watching him play for us, but we're firmly in rebuilding mode right now. Rafael's here to keep us up while we finish the great purge of our horribly created squad. If you can get 15M you take it and reinvest in a younger and more athletic creative player.

We're going to be crap this year, so what's the point of keeping him around to play 50% of our matches and be ineffective in Rafael's system.

That sounds fine in theory.

However,

A: Imagine selling James for £15mil and watching £28mil/£34mil Iwobi all season.

B: Who actually trusts brands to sign a replacement?

C: Imagine selling James and signing Dumfries :(

If we had already sold Iwobi, Delph, Gomes, Tosun and Kenny and then it was James being sold...then it 'may' mean weve cleared the decks for a couple of top young players...or are keeping our powder dry for next summer after being clear of FFP.

To sell James with those players still on the books is distasteful.

The problem we have in shifting all those players is finding willing buyers.

Iwobi? Who needs him?

Delph? Injured and in his final year. He'll toss off until January.

Gomes? I actually think he will feature more. Besides, if we sold him we'd get what, 10/12?

Tosun? See Delph. He'll sit out his final year and sign a pre contract to go back to Turkey in Jan.

Kenny? Maybe a Championship club. At best.

It's not as easy as saying "Sell" when the players are not really sellable.

I don't think has anything to do with Rafael giving James the cold shoulder personally. Think it has more to do with Rafael not treating him as being special. He's not that type of manager to have favourites or be cosy with players. He's very cold.

Think James needs that arm around him which is why he likes playing for a manager like Carlo.

There just has to be a balance.

I've said this all along. James will happily stay or leave, Mendes will sort that either way. It was always going to be on the club.

We've clearly relied a lot on getting in money for Kean which we haven't so far managed to do. We've looked at the squad and James is the biggest earner left you'd imagine. He's also the only one of those high earners, probably bar Digne, that other clubs would pay the wages he's on for. So our board will be looking at it and think there's a quick buck there, because they know they can't get the others off the books - because they've shown no evidence whatsoever at being able to do that in the last 3-4 years.

James is on £90k a week, and would fetch in £10 mill absolute max in a fee, so im struggling to see how its a financial decision.

Mina is on more, Gylfi, Digne, richarlison, delph and Gomes.

if its a money issue then digne or richarlison or even DCL are sold, as they would bring in huge amounts straight away.

its clear as day this is an issue with the player, from the manager and that has been put out using his media connections.

Maybe its just down to playing style and he doesnt fit with how we will play, thats fine, thats football. But this seems like a targeted media attempt to kick him out.

I'm sure James is on £120+k a week. He's our highest earner.

Any other club will have to pay the same

No, he is not even in our top 3 top earners.
Aston Villa are about to offer Grealish £200k a week.
Bit of perspective is needed on these wage amounts.

Pretty sure James is on more than £90k a week mate.

Either way, it's not good that we wouldn't be bothered if he left. Like you say, it's arrogance in the extreme, considering we have actual crap as other options.
