Some people say he can only pass the ball, yeah, in a team that can't pass the ball lol

I said the same on the manager thread.

It just doesn't make sense to me, and he should have answered the Coleman question exactly the same, if he's not bothered by individuals?!

We've got a us tour planned, where many Colombians may want to go and see us and James, plus he's still a quality player and world class on his day - even if James wants out (which I don't think is tryr) or Benitez doesn't want him, he should have talked James up and made out he's going to be a part of what we do next season, just to potentially drive any fee up.

He want us to forget his red past but obviously he's still got beef with James that he hasn't forgot?

Just sad really, James would be one of the last on my list to get shut of.
@NathDogg I couldn’t agree more with your post. I didn’t see the whole press conference only the clip they asked about James and he gave me no confidence about him wanting to keep him.

Benitez had the same unfriendly demeanor towards James when giving press conferences while at Madrid. He always seems bothered that the press focuses so much on James’ status. What Benitez doesn’t seem to understand is that James in addition to being a footballer, is a marketing machine with millions of followers among them many Colombians who probably purchased preseason tickets because they want to see James playing next weekend in Florida. So like you said, it would have been nice if Benitez had spoken with the tour in mind and the many new Everton followers that will be there because of James.

I guess after the press conference Benitez also had an interview with Everton tv where he discusses James and Mina. The interview is in Spanish and I can't find a link with a translation but here is the link to the newspaper story.

Everton's preseason continues and the Spanish coach spoke with the Everton television channel about the two Colombian players he has on the squad, highlighting their ability to understand football and what they can contribute to the team. He highlighted what Yerry Mina did in the Copa América with the Colombian National Team and hopes that the Latin American fans will choose them as their second team thanks to the participation of our team.

Benítez in the first press conference avoided talking about James on time and this time he took the opportunity to refer to how he sees the two Colombians he has on the squad. "They are players who have quality, passion, who like and understand football and that is always important for any team, having players on the field who can interpret what to do is essential if you want to be competitive and have a chance of winning" .

The 61-year-old coach also had space to talk about what he saw of Yerry Mina in the Copa América where he played the 7 games and added 595 minutes, being one of the most involved with the National Team that finished third . He made it clear that he assumed responsibilities and tried to handle the ball to get out playing.

"I have seen some games, he has done well, it was a shame in the end, but hey I think the team has had a good championship they have been competitive. In particular he, because he is a player who has assumed responsibility, who has tried to handling the ball, getting it out played and then it is always dangerous in set pieces , therefore I think it has also been a good experience for him ".

Finally, he referred to the connection with the Latin American fans. "I think the fans identify with the players from their countries and that always helps a lot in that connection to that support for increasing the number of fans who follow your team. If we add to that that we want to play well, win games and let the crowd be entertained. Hopefully many of those fans will follow us into the season and into the future so that we will be their second team when they have to choose between one and the other. "

At best it wasn't very smart - managers have to think of commercial interests whether they like it or not, and promoting the tour, with potentially any number of James' several million followers tuning in, would have been clever. Up till a few days ago, nobody knew even if James was gonna be in florida! Now they should be making the most of his visit, it'll bring in so much money. So either nobody told Benitez to do that, or he didn't listen / agree.

At worst, it's old beef coming back if he doesn't want to talk up James for personal reasons. If he thinks James doesn't deserve extra attention, it's silly, because James is the most famous and most successful player to come to us and obviously other players have to get on board if he's getting more attention. I fear our club culture can't handle James.

So, here's the deal about Benitez. He has to be unquestionably in charge.

James is a power center in the dressing room Benitez doesn't control. (That is how you all put 'locker room', right? To us Yanks, it sounds like James is a thespian.) Benitez put up with Ronaldo and Bale's nonsense because he had to. He didn't have to put up with James, so he didn't.

This is one of the problems with Benitez. He destroys value by pushing good players out. Mourinho does the same thing, but for different reasons. Benitez needs to be in charge. Mourinho needs someone to blame.

Once Benitez destroys value, he can create some if you let him. Most club power structures won't give him as much power as he needs. I doubt ours will. I'm hoping that he slays some sacred cows, or at least gets people at the club to think about those sacred cows. If we're really lucky, he talked some sense into Moshiri and Moshiri will make Brands give him what he wants.

I don't think we're that lucky, but I'm open to being proven wrong.

He is cold with all players, it’s just his style, I honestly think James is going to have a great season. People don’t realise how good he is. He contributed to over half our goals last season in one form or another. That was taking into consideration we played half the season as a defensive team. If we change our tactics a player of James quality can flourish. I just hope he doesn’t leave.

Glad to see that R.A.F.A. has a ruthless streak and is willing to put the club above anything else. James is lazy and pretentious and thinks he’s above the club.

Also very glad to hear R.A.F.A. speaking so passionately about the club in the media yesterday and vowing to give us enough success to earn him the right to still be here when the new stadium opens. If he wants to still be here by that point then it shows he’s committed and not just here for a very short-term payday. Either way we just can’t keep getting a new manager every season. It’s madness and doesn’t work. Our new manager will now need all our support and I’m sure he’ll get it. As blues we’re known as a fairly logical, patient
and reasonable fan-base.

No one knows if James wants to stay at the club or not. If he wants to leave then fine, let him leave. But i have no idea what he is thinking.

I dont think he's lazy at all. He just can't stay injury free. Whether we can afford to accommodate such an injury prone player is another question, but its not his fault. It's just one of those things.

We actually do have some idea. About a month ago James did an Instagram live and he stated that If he stay another year at Everton that would be fine for him. And it really would be good for him to stay if he wants to get back to playing with Colombia National Team and go to the WC.

i also don’t think he is lazy. It’s so unfortunate that people are always putting labels on him. He is lazy, he is unprofessional, he doesn’t work hard enough but I always see him training as hard as everyone else and taking care of his body and being a family man. James is also very competitive in nature and he really always wants to play so his injuries, and he is prone to them, are as frustrating to him as it is to us.
