Have to say his continual and apparently recurring hamstring problems are beginning to look increasingly ominous for his future with us.

Suffered similarly with my hamstrings, would get treated, rest etc etc, run on roads, treadmills all fine, go back to grass and pop. Often though a hamstring is triggered by something else, in my case my back. Guess that's all been explored but his are now at £13.5m and what £50k a week bloody expensive and right in the too expensive bracket and ready to be replaced by someone else. See RK statement as a bit of a warning - we want you but if ya/we can't sort this your history.

Shame as I think it's getting to the stage now where we can't rely on him, and we can't really afford to keep players like that. I rate him a lot as a squad player and also think there are games where he would benefit the team by starting, but his injury problems the past few seasons have been ridiculous.

..yes, hamstring problems blighted my footy days and forced me to pack even old mans 5 a side. The problem is scar tissue continues to tear. As I've said about McCarthy, this has to be a consideration in his future with the club. Players automatically protect them and will often play within themselves. I fear this is what McCarthy was doing during that period when he was ineffective.

£15 million offer and get shut asap. Becoming injury prone and we can't afford having such a saleable assist to rot on the bench.

a real serious problem this because for whatever reason he continues to suffer with the same type of injury. Baffling that for a player who doesn't rely on pace that for over 2 seasons now he's struggled with his hamstrings and our medical team haven't got to the bottom of it.
Doesn't rely on pace?
Bobby said the opposite, said he was all about explosive pace and sprinting which made him different to all the other Barry style positional defensive defensive midfielders. McCarthy hunts down , fire fights and harries, while most defensive midfielders are all about stamina and positioning.
That's why Bobby had to conceed McCarthy needed a separate diet/fitness regime. I bet Koeman has binned it hence the problems have returned.

99.9% of what Bobby says is and was absolute bullshine, proved as he said over 18 months ago they've got to the bottom of his hamstring issues yet here we are after about the 8th hamstring strain since he opened his gob.

Would it be helped by a prolonged period of rest?

...the scar tissue will still be there. I was talking to a renowned sports doctor about McCarthy a few months ago and he said hamstrings can be managed by specific and persistent stretching exercises and warm ups. If I remember rightly, Ian Snodin was blighted by them and even went under the knife in an attempt to get it right but all to no avail.
