James McCarthy

I think the player fancied a move himself and Newcastle wanted him

Koeman's stance and words on him are quite interesting - he is the player that Martinez had signed (along with Maybe Lennon) who, before the season started, I thought might best suit the high energy approach Koeman wanted - now that he's fit I can understand Koeman thinking he might be worth having around (if indeed his words are to be believed). Personally, given he has competition from Schneiderlin, Gana and Davies along with Barry and, to a lesser extent, Besic, I think McCarthy will be gone in the summer anyway

prob go in the summer and might be able to get even more from newcastle if they get promoted

As in understood it he has not agitated for a move, do you know different friend? Pleased he's staying but he will have to show some form if Ron is really going to keep his promise that he's part of the plan.

There's a difference between agitating and fancying a move

Not for a moment suggesting McCarthy was trying his best to get a transfer, but given Moshiri making a point about McCarthy at the end of the transfer window and Koeman talking about him at the end of this one, reasonable to assume there was interest in him at the end of both windows

Generally speaking, teams don't move for players unless they are given encouragement that they would be open to a move there

No inside info, but I suspect McCarthy, given he is now a squad member rather than nailed on first XI player, has been quite open to the idea of a move for a while

How many starts do you think he will get in the last 16 games?
If he plays like he has lately? Why not a regular start...or should the manager cut his nose off to spite his face in order to placate those who want to see a good player moved on?

The derby proved to me that he can still play a role this season when it suits, Its just gonna be tough with so many midfielders, one or two injuries though and it's a whole different outlook.

....he will still be in demand in the summer and the income from his transfer will help bring others in.
Agree mate. As we upgrade and get a better balance to our squad there are going to be casualties along the way.

Hopefully we can get decent money for Niasse, Clev, Macca, and maybe even Mori. If we can get £40/45m for them plus bits and bobs for some of the decent youth players that wont make the grade with us, it will go towards our acquisition costs. The calibre of player being mooted we're probably looking at £150m gross spend.

Plus any profit made on player sales can go towards bridging the fair play salary gap.

Koeman praised Macca yesterday Dave.

If it weren't for Davies' form I reckon he'd be starting tonight.

I think, like you, McCarthy is happy to stay but equally, fancied first-team football.

We'll see how the rest of the season plays out. A fully fit and in-form McCarthy is excellent.

He hasn't played lately Dave, and we've won our last 3 league games without conceding a goal. If he doesn't get back in the team it's because we are winning, not because Koeman has some agenda against him. :coffee:

Every single thing you say is negative. Give it a rest.

McCarthy has done better in his previous appearances and will get his chance if other players don't maintain form. Why drop somebody who is playing well just to fit him in?

one of your biggest complaints has been the money lashed on snides. I thought you would have been made up if we got our money back on a player who's stank the place out for much of the last two years?
