strange how he's spending a lot of time covering the left wing when we had two awesome left-backs playing.

Not sure if serious, but just in case... He's covering the attacking full-backs to avoid being caught on the counter. That's pretty much his primary job in that role. He had to do it even more today as he didn't have Barry next to him, so his game was 5-10 yards deeper.

... and to be fair, that heatmap is perfectly acceptable for the transitional role Osman was supposed to play today. His positioning is generally fine, but it's his lack of presence which allows the opposition to ghost past him like he's not there.

I thought it was one of his worst games for us today, his passing was sloppy and a few times he played it blindly and into trouble, great bursting run for the goal though. Love him usually just don't think he's been at his best since he come back from ban (playing with osman probably plays a massive part in this)

I agree that's what he's doing, and yes it's a good part of his job, but you can see from Osman's heat map that Coleman is obviously managing defending as well as getting forward (or Osman is useless at covering in the same way)

I think my point was more that there were essentially two left back playing so i'd assume it would be defensively quite tight down that side, more so that having just one.

He should have a dig now and then. I think he sees that type of thing is a low % option - he's a player schooled in not wasting possession and that's a sure fire way of handing the ball back to the opposition. Hell always look for a pass to complete rather than take a shot.
