I would agree, except running around a lot and making tackles is McCarthy's job, not Barkley's. Ross has been used as an Attacking Midfielder, even a number 10 at times, McCarthy has been a DM most of his Everton career. Comparing apples and oranges here mate.

Who said he was a superstar box to box midfielder? There's plenty on here that would like to see him play like that but he's been playing defensive midfield until the last quarter of the season. He has the skills for box to box as witnessed by his couple of goals when Bobby has allowed him the get forward, but his main role is covering the defence and Coleman's runs.

probably about right in the market with that price, but he won't be sold for that. We lose more games when he doesn't play. Simple as that. Besic is nowhere near his class at the moment.

I don't see anything more in Besic than McCarthy at that age McCarthy has way more experience for his age. However they aren't competing for the same place so it's pretty pointless arguing it.

I was pointing out that unless ross runs the midfield he's had a [Poor language removed] game while McCarthy can run around like a headless chicken and everything is rosy in the garden

I said besic has more potential to be better long term not at this moment
He's come from the Hungarian league where he mainly played CB to the prem
Let's not forget McCarthy has probably had 5 maybe 6 yrs in the prem what's that 300games

IMHO besic looks to have more to his game especially technically and vision

He's not all of a sudden going to turn into a 10goal 10 assist attacking midfielder

He's fit for one possition only to take Barry's place infront of the back 4 get the ball and give it to the better players

Don't get me wrong I do think McCarthy is a good player
Just when he has a bad/average game he seems to be above criticism from a lot of fans
To be a top class midfielder you need more than just energy and the ability to tackle

It depends really, football is evolving, a lot of teams played 2 DMs last year, I think a few will switch to 1, hopefully we are 1 of them, im not comparing and its a different era, but thats all Makelelelelele did his whole career and he was bloody good at it.

I think you are under-rating McCarthy, I really do, not many players will press, tackle and close down for a whole 90minutes, Martinez is trying to "expand" his game and I think it went reasonably well, lets see what happens, if he cant shoot or be creative, its not the end of the world, cos IMO hes amazing at DM, he really is.

Never. Barry will be in for Besic. Throw Deulofeu and Cleverley right and left mid respectively and you've got his favoured midfield I reckon. Reckon it could work having the clev left mid though, a new Pienaar type player getting Baines into good positions. Claines, if you will.

Im not sure really, we do have lots of options already in the middle of the park, keep Mirallas and sign the young Spanish lid and we have the players to make a 4-3-3 work to perfection IMO.

Im less and less convinced of the boy Kevin sticking around tho sadly.

It's very unlikely we will get top 4 so martinez should play Ross in his true possition and see how he develops

When Ross sets up/scores the number of goals that one would expect of a player getting that many minutes in his position then he will get a 'free pass' because he's doing his job as well.

my point was that MCarthy has been good enough to play Play first team Premiership football since the age of 17/18, McCarthy is way ahead in terms of development to the point he was bought to set Bobby's rhythm/tempo/playing style for the rest of the Club.

I saw McCarthy make his debut for Hamilton at 15. I also saw him play for two years in the Hamilton First team as an AM and number 10. Bobby bought him for Wigan and after a few positions, moved him back into the role we see him in now, not because that was his best position, but because that was where he's the most effective in the team given the Players he had/has in the squad. Hell, thinking of it, I've probably seen McCarthy play in more positions than Bobby as. (he played up front when called upon for an odd game at Hamilton). Yes it was Hamilton, playing in the lower Scottish Leagues then the SPL, but then again he was only 15/16/17 playing against the biggest nastiest defences Scotland had to offer.

All I'm saying is, you'd be surpised what McCarthy can do. All we've seen so far of him in an Everton shirt is him under orders to defend and cover for other players getting forward. Towards the end of last season, Bobby started telling him to get forward a bit more as well because we were predictable and ponderous. He did and managed to get a couple of goals, I really don't see what the problem is. McCarthy will make a great box to box midfielder.

in a couple of seasons I'd expect Besic to be anchoring our midfield and McCarthy and Cleverley both aiming for double figures of goals playing with more licence to attack.

barring us getting this No10 that's exactly how i think we'll line up but play a diamond in the hard games with both besic and Barry and since they're all at the start I think besic might keep his place. It's definitely the season Besic will take barry's pos. Just a matter when. If we get that no10 McCarthy will be sold.
