I hope we offer him a 2-3 year contract with the assurance that if we get a good season out of him it will be extended and that if we don't then he can go.
...thought it very odd when his last contract was renewed, thought it odd when Silva said he wanted to keep him this season. Injuries aren’t his fault but he hasn’t been fully fit for a very long time. From a playing perspective it would make no difference if he wasn’t here.
Im scrathing my head on this one and go back and forth.
In theory he should be a player that Silva likes, his engine and tenacity leads itself to Silvas pressing style, so on one hand i can understand why Silva may admire him
Then i think playing with a no 8 like Gomes and that level of creativity, Silva seems to like as well.
Then you have Morgan and Davies who have been picked at times ahead of him in the above absences, that has me questioning he may have physically recovered but might not be match fit and its hard to reintroduce a player during a bad spell in January and toward the end of the season who needs mins. he was sent home from the ROI squad because he wasn't match fit.
He may have been told to invest in Davies as a young player, or we have invested big in Morgan as an asset from a club perspective.
Maybe he just doesnt rate him, but his actions around keeping him in Jan suggest something different.
Its all speculative really, just my musings.
Sadly for Jamesy and for us in many ways in a business sense, with his contract situation i think he may have drawn the short straw, unless he can turn something around between now and the end of the season.
...the last injury was a dreadful one but before that he was playing with the handbrake on, protecting his hamstrings. When he let the handbrake off for two games, the hamstring popped in the Derby. That scar tissue will be permanently there, I can only think he hasn’t convinced Silva in training sessions.
But Farhad said "James is part of the family"......thought it very odd when his last contract was renewed, thought it odd when Silva said he wanted to keep him this season. Keep him, sell Schneiderlin
What’s the point?
Who is going to buy him when he hasn't played in 2 yearsMc Carthy has become a conundrum for Everton. There is no doubt he can play football and do so in a good pressing team. However the trouble he had with his hamstrings before his last injury put a question mark on his ability to compete. He has been back for quite a while and we haven't seen him. If he is still behind Gana, Snids and Davies then it is hard to see why he is needed. However, not having played, his value in any transfer would be limited. I think I would be looking to play him to see where he is at. If Silva is convinced he has no future at the club then it would be best to release him, he could get games and it would free up his wage.
