James McCarthy

When we were first linked with him, I wasn't sure which of the two he was, McCarthy or McArthur. Still think we got the wrong one!

Neither would have been ideal looking back now.

I’ll never forgive McCarthy. I didn’t want him. Thought he was crap.
He joins. Plays amazing for one season making me look more of a nobhead than usual.
Then he spends the rest of his time here injured or being crap again.

Nobhead. (Seems a nice bloke to be fair)

Just couldn't stay healthy and was never the same as a result... not uncommon for players who rely so much on physicality. Unfortunate, but not really his fault.

From the Steps' song Better Best Forgotton:

If only you read my mind
You'd see James is hurt inside
A thousand times I've told myself it's over (it's over)
But the story has just begun
And Marco what's done is done
It's time to change and leave the past behind

Why should we know all the answers
Or how the story ends (so Jamesy)

Let's take a chance on a happy ending
(Let's) turn the page and stop pretending
The past can stop his knee from bending
It's time to let go 'cause Jamesy you know
Some things are better best forgotten

He was never crap, he just couldn't stay fit

Every time he was fit he did a great job for us

You could argue that pound for pound he was our best player in 13/14

Keep him, sell Schneiderlin

This.

Unfortunately hes entering the last year of his contract so unless he get game time between now and the summer and performces the way we know he can he could go in the summer, essentially on a free or a nominal fee.

There is one scenario where it makes clever business to stay, but it will depend on the clubs view of his injury record and ability to contribute.

I hope we offer him a 2-3 year contract with the assurance that if we get a good season out of him it will be extended and that if we don't then he can go.
