James McCarthy

What a lot of fans don’t seem to realise. If McCarthy comes back into the side. And stays in the side. And in 12/18 months time he is stil in the side alongside gana, Schneiderlin. Davies to a lesser extent as he’s still got improvement in him, unlike the other 3.

We will still be hanging around 7th and 8th. Maybe 6th if we are lucky.

And the likes of Richarlison, Bernard and Mina will be looking for a way out. Just like Stones & Lukaku did.

In the last 12 months, our side has improved massively. GK, LB, CB’s and obviously the front 4. The midfield now is the area that needs some really quality. And I’m sure Brands is onto it.

Lads, he is another option for our struggling midfield and on his day can be very good. Let's see what Marco can do with him before destroying another of our players shall we. As what will happen (nearly always does happen) is that you end up looking like bitter knobs when he comes back and plays well.

He was the only midfielder who actually did a job for us under koemans last days. He's never downed tools like Snide-rlein... he's more consistent than Gana.

He's been played through injury and I believe he will come into his own under Silva.

I’ve always been a fan of macarthy but this is a good point. He’s a great player if we aim to finish 7/8 but if we are aiming higher which we have to be, he along with others, snides for a start, that need to be upgraded.
So despite how much I like him as a player, to realise our goals we are going to need better. On form though I would still put him In the side ahead of Snides and Davies and in some ways Gana as he is a better passer.

Teams get desperate in Jan if theyre worried about relegation.

Thats the snag, he cant prove his fitness...everytime it looks like hes turned a corner...BAM...hes injured
It's been mostly his hamstrings in the past, that has caused his constant injury worries, now they have had a good rest
maybe, just maybe, James can have a good spell and prove his fitness, surely it worth a wait.

Thats a bit mad really. I get you rate him at a certain standard. But to say players are going to leave if he plays games is a bit mad, you can basically say that about anyone. Im leaving because you are playing James McCarthy, i really dont think so, you can also say it about anyone.

McCarthy has done something most in our squad haven't and that actually win a medal and he did it with a gasher team then Everton who went on to be relegated and an injury to him was a dictating factor of why that outcome came about.

Weird one. I think he was alright whenever he played, the reason he's not viewed as a good signing is mostly down to rotten luck with injuries. He's not Cleverly bad and he cost 10 million less than Klassen.
That lad should never be a benchmark for proper market value on a player.

I see no reason from (some) quality showings and overall more experience, he couldn't at least challenge Davies, Morgs and now Gomes to improve and fight for their spots. Competition for those spots are welcomed if you ask me.

All you lads mocking poor ol' Macca!

Just you watch... While he's been sitting on his arse for the last 6 months, he found his hidden inner motivation a la Rocky I style!
.
He's .gonna come back and silence all you doubtful Thomas's! ;)

He's more consistently injured than Gana, maybe.

Come on guys, this dude hasn't been even PL average in years. He's nowhere near Gomes / Gana level in his prime. If you want him around to do a backup job for us, fine, but come on.

Gomes hasn't even played a game for us.... I hope he finds his old self with us but seriously you are talking about him like he's an established player. Klaassen looked great in another league.
