2025/26 James Garner

You say that as if we’ve been brilliant in all our other home games though? If it was ‘all caused by gueye coming in’ you’d have to wonder why we’ve been crap at home against Newcastle, Arsenal, Brentford, wolves, and Sunderland when he wasn’t playing really wouldn’t you? Garner has made good strides this season and has arguably been our player of the season so far but his best midfield performances have still come away when we’ve been very tight and compact, allowing the opposition most of the ball. He’s still struggled to impose himself on games where more is expected and you’re looking for him to actually dictate the game. It’s not always someone else’s fault.

If you read about 4,000 of my posts you'll see I've mentioned our home form is absolutely dreadful.

We're in the Garner thread, I'm talking about where he was for the majority of the game and the reason why he was there.

Hope that helps.

Perhaps because we were playing away but a central midfield of Garner and KDH and then Garner and Rohl looked much more cohesive and compact.

Gana has been one of my favourite recent Everton players but he must be difficult to play with as he just hunts the ball and leave space in behind him.

Oh ok. Usually when people say something is ‘all caused by’ they mean it wouldn’t happen if it weren’t for that thing. I stupidly assumed you were using the right words to convey what you meant, I should really have known better.

This is the Jarrad effect, when everyone looks better when he is in the team. When he plays, the midfield can play higher up because the defense can play higher up. And when Gana hunts for the ball there is less space left behind him.
