2025/26 Jake O'Brien

He's dreadful as a right back, dreadful on the ball, indecisive, struggles to read the game. Its night and day compared to when hes playing centre half, hes assured, calm (except against DCL who gave him a torrid night), better on the ball.

Its not his fault. He offers nothing but a headache but the manager insists on it. He'll be straight back in after his 1 game ban regardless of who plays right back and if they do well.

Straight red = three match ban.

As I’ve mentioned in another thread, I genuinely think Moyes sees him as a right back who can provide cover at centre back rather than the other way around, which I find deeply worrying. I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts next season as our first choice RB, unless we can find a cheap and available 27+ year old, 6’0” minimum, Premier League proven right back.

When he was first deployed at RB though, his pace was one of the main attributes that got him out of trouble there.

When he came in last season, he was a breath if fresh air mate and we can all agree he done well.

This season, we've all seen how much he's struggled and then he plays centre half and he is absolute levels above his performances at right back.

Whether we like Patterson or not ( i know you don't and I'm not his number 1 fan either ) he had done enough to continue his run of games and games like tonight are where he could be given a game. If not him, then Garner goes there as we have options for once in midfield.

Jakes selection at right back
Keanes selection at centre back
Gueyes lack of rotation
The position that KDH gets selected when we coukd help him by adding another attacking threat
All these things are massive contributions to the issues at home

There's so many issues that arise when it simply doesnt have to be that way. We're grinding out away results, we're not grinding out home results with the same set up and that set up is only acceptable when it works..

2 months without a home win, 2 months without even looking like getting a home win. 2 months where every set up is the same. I'm amazed how we get such amazing support, in the main we are awful to watch.

I agree on almost every point mate. The glaringly obvious resolution is to sign better fullbacks - they don't even have to be long term options, just better than what we've got now and our outlook is much more positive.

100% SJB. Unfortunately we've just missed that 4 week window as once again it was decided we've got enough in those positions.

We're only 3 months away from losing Branthwaite and Illy, buying 2 great full backs with that money to then say "ffs we need a new centre half and someone to replace Illy"

Other clubs seem to regurgitate though, why should we fear losing a player for £70m? We should be seeing it as a positive, we can buy players with that money.

I don't fear losing any player mate, but can you tell me confidently and with 100% conviction that you'd trust this current set up, to sell a player for 70m and not only replace him, but improve the squad?
