2025/26 Jake O'Brien

The world and his Uncle knows he’s a centre back not a right back. Whether it’s Patterson or Garner at right back against the Mancs, and irrespective of how well they do, we all know he’ll be back at RB against Newcastle away!
In fact I wouldn’t mind betting Mr M will try his four centre back “tactic” again up in the North East!

I think it’s worth pointing out that the situation he was caught out in tonight is absolutely something he’d have to deal with at centre half and he made a terrible mess of it. I know he can’t play right back, but I’m not totally convinced he’s going to be the answer at centre half either to be honest.

Far better at CB than RB though.

The midfield all night was letting Bournemouth sail through with ease. O'Brien was caught badly on one of a host of times where our paperlight midfield provided zero cover for the back line.

Stagnant, jogging around, no bite, last night worried me seriously about this midfield. It was evident from the kick off not just in the second half.

Gana looks good have a close look at his game he chooses to go where he wants to leaving massive holes in a midfield two as KDH is playing a no 10 role ...

When he was away our midfield looked so solid with James Garner getting support he was MOTM most games in our midfield v Vila away with 3 in there was so good - so why did DM change it all ?

Will we ever see him next to Branthwaite in his best position? Not buying right back in two windows was absolutely criminal and I think it’s because the club see O’Brien as the first choice right back. It’s unfair on him, you can see he doesn’t know how to play the position and it’s stopping his progression in his natural position.

Back 4 should be Patterson OBrien Branthwaite Mykolenko and we should be looking at getting new fullbacks in the summer. Instead we’ll probably just extend Keane again and carry on next season as is.

Garner, KDH and Armstrong as the 3 for me. Garner has shown he can do the deep role effectively.

Yuo mean David Moyes.

Wasn't even anywhere near a goal scoring chance with two Everton defenders easily able to get across to the Bournemouth player.

Players dont know where they are with these rules. Next game up it'll happen and nothing other than a free kick will be given.

As far as O'Brien is concerned he had the pace to keep up with the attack so I dont know why he careered into him other than the surface conditions maybe.
