I sympathize with her family but just don't understand why there are thousands (reportedly) gathered outside her house mourning for her. Some are comparing her to princess diana.

In January 2007, she was a housemate in Celebrity Big Brother. During the show she was accused of racist bullying against Indian actress Shilpa Shetty. Following her eviction from the show, she admitted her actions had been wrong and she subsequently made many public apologies.

She said that when her comments against Shetty, who she referred as "Shilpa Poppadom", were read back to her, she thought "Oh my God, maybe I am racist".

But it's a phrase which is used to describe how governments or other rulers use public entertainments (circuses) and appeals to self-interest (bread) to distract the general population from matters which they may otherwise be interested in:

• who exactly is providing all the money
• who exactly it is all going to
• why public and private institutions are creating illegal databases
• where those pesky weapons got to and who exactly lied about it for what particular reason

etc., etc.
