2025/26 Jack Grealish

Never looked anything other than lean and sharp when he was in and around the squad so not overly bothered.

If he had emerged from City and reinvented himself to use his obvious touch and technical ability as a mercurial creative and combative CM then I’d be all over it for a sensible price.

Buying him as a LW, sadly, doesn’t make much sense to me, particularly when we have a dribbler instead of a raw pace merchant on the other wing too. Not a slight on him as he’d still be easily one of our best players, but the squad feels like it needs something very different.

I love him and would give him £200k to be a mascot. He lit the first half of the season up with his enthusiasm, personality, genuine reverence to the club and the fans, and moments of quality we haven’t seen in years.

Rooney was maybe a case in point. Contrast him to Ronaldo
Rooney flourished at 16 years old and had the british gutter press all over him from minute one. Smoked, drank and ate like a hippopotamus. A three year retirement in saudi doesn't extend his (cr7) legacy for me, it's been about the money and why not. A small stint in a flea bitten rag of a former top league in Italy is no great shakes. A whirlwind clown episode returning to man utd for a short spell was ridiculous. Most players know when it's time to hang up their boots because they aren't half the player they were. This coming WC is going to annoy because it's going to be about surpassing Pele's appearance record, his international record is absurd I grant, but he's not exactly had tough competition, and has been remarkably lucky with injury. Also, if a british player let alone an international gets tainted like cr7 has been, he'd have been finished and cancelled within the hour.

Grealish signs again on loan. Keeps his amazing pay from city coming in (that no one can match, let alone will) and we top it up. He's a long road to recover and get full fit again. Fortunately no international nonsense to get in the way. Free to talk to other clubs in January as his contract finishes up proper at city in August 2027.

Yes, I think it's about 6 and he's scored a couple. He's been of use. But it also shackles us into a way of playing that is predictable and easy to set up against.

How many times did we see the ball scooped out wide left and then we stalled as Grealish dawdled on the ball?

He cant go past defenders and he moves inside. It's all very one-paced and we need to play in a more dynamic style.
Maybe if he had a half decent player behind him helping then it would be quicker and better, but seeing as we have the worst left back in the prem playing that's the problem same on the other sides the full backs are killing us.

That's the 3rd time this season to my knowledge he's been pictured / seen polatic abroad. First one was during an international break, 2nd during a suspension I think. It's his life, and there's been no stories of misdemeanours - more a local fixer helping him back to his apartment in an earlier Dubai bender.

But, he's 31 later this year, and his fitness can go off a cliff quickly. Rooney was maybe a case in point. Contrast him to Ronaldo - similar age, and about to play in a World Cup at the age of 40. I'm not criticising either player - their business, but I would hope Moyes is thinking long and hard about whether to sign him permanently, or get another loan. I suspect he's got 1, maybe 2 more seasons at the top level, assuming he recovers from the injury okay.

So that'll be a 5 year contract then, nailed on.
Yeah, I'll be honest and say that I want him at the club next season because he's creative and other players seem to improve around him, but the contract is very important - he's not living a particularly clean lifestyle and he's not going to have a career at the top level into his late 30s, but he doesn't necessarily need pace to make us a better team. Give him a left back with attacking threat behind him and you'll create an entirely new dimension of threat in the team that a player of his intelligence could exploit. Baines was never the same threat without Pienaar in front of him and Pienaar never had pace.

But the contract length would be important. Another loan would be fine, a 2 year deal probably fine, but no longer unless it was an option the club could trigger.

Hippopotamus's are primary vegetarian so not a good comparison 😂

I've seen Mykolenko a few times (not much) overlap and the pass didn't come.

More importantly though is that Grealish has no ability to inject a bit of pace over 10 yards to make the room to swing a cross in.

He pointedly never attempts that and always turns back or passes inside to KDH / Garner.

We're missing a trick here and it really should be Ndiaye down that left hand side and Dibling should have been brought through now on the right - and probably would have been under any other manager than this King Herod we have.

Akin to moaning about Lukaku's first touch and how we'd spread the goals around, this.

Grealish doesn't have pace to inject over 10 yards?! SHOCKER.

Honestly I can't see why everyone seems desperate to buy him.

Seems a great lad but we've already got a better player in that position.

I can't remember any games this season where I've thought, yeah he's worth paying x million fee/wages for.

We need pace in this side more than anything else imo.
