2025/26 Jack Grealish

Again, this is what I’m saying. How much he’d want is irrelevant to the conversation, how much I think we should pay him is what matters (in this context). Again, I don’t think we should be breaking the bank for a player who hadn’t made a huge difference to our results this season and is coming to the twilight of his career. If we can do a good deal I’d like to keep him, I just don’t see £17m a year as a good deal.
I didn’t simply say £17m per year, I said £28m over 3 years but front loaded at £17m to get over his huge wage and book value to City for his final year of contract.
So to the point you made that £17m in year 1 is a bad option that’s ‘not really debatable to be honest, it’s just a pretty obvious fact’, how much on top of the £17m fee you suggested do you think he would expect to be paid for the the 3 years you say would make more financial sense?

FWIW I’m not even necessarily saying we should do it, I’m more saying I think the cheapest we could do a deal for him would be around £28m for 3 years.

No, you talked about signing him on loan for £17m and then him ‘possibly’ staying longer. I’m just saying I don’t think that’s a good deal. Paying more for him next year than we did this year would be mad when he’s older and had a bad injury, again I just don’t think that’s up for debate really. There is a deal to be done but it has to be good for us, we need to stop being grateful at the idea of decent players agreeing to play for us and look to get proper value from what’s available. It’s only an opinion - he could potentially come on a £17m loan deal and be the best player in the league and make me look daft - but my opinion is that at £17m for a years loan he wouldn’t be good value.

Fair enough, I said up to £17m, which is likely only £2m more that this year cost, but for the 4th time of asking to justify your reply, how much do you think he would want to be paid to come here on top of the £17m transfer fee you suggested?

Also you describe another 1 year loan deal for more or less the same money as being ‘mad’ as he’s just had a bad injury, but your also saying giving him a 3 year contract would be more sensible.

And as I’ve already said, I neither know nor care how much he’ll want. I don’t know how much mykolenko would want to sign a new contract but it’s surely ok for me to say I wouldn’t want us to pay him £300k a week?! I don’t need to justify it do I? I’m just a bloke on a forum saying I think I don’t think £17m a year sounds like a good idea, I don’t really see why I need to explain exactly how much I would be happy for us to pay and why, it seems like you’re just taking it way further than it needs to go to be honest.

Thats not an opinion that’s quite clearly a statement of fact.
The problem with that is if he picks up another bad injury you’ve basically just pissed £17m up the wall. It’s different to having him under a long term contract.
All I’m wondering is what this long term contract you mentioned might cost, and how a longer term contract off the back of what you described as a bad injury is more sensible.

Grealish & stones for Braithwaite

Obviously not, but the other linked players as well;

Lewis, Stones, Mukasa, Grealish

I wonder if Moyes does that deal?

I wouldnt as even with his injuries, I think we're still looking at Branthwaite with a Maguire figure £80mil+ before considering a sale.

Also dont see much value from the players city would offer aside from perhaps Mukasa.

I’m not talking about it being career affecting, I’m just saying if you only get 20 games or whatever out of him and you’ve spent £17m and then he or we decide not to make it permanent it’s an absolutely awful waste of resources. It’s not really debatable to be honest, it’s just a pretty obvious fact.

Depends which way you measure the risk.

I'm not bothered if we sign him or not tbh.
Need faster players, especially down the sides.
But if we do sign him, ffs don't rush it.
City are desperate to get shut.

Basically where I am as well.

Also not sure its incredibly smart to negotiate now, unless its for multiple players.

Really cant believe some people are turning noses . We paid more for mcneil lol , if 17-20m is accurate wow what a bargain.

McNeil we nearly sold for a profit and should breakeven in the summer.

We wont get a penny back selling Grealish.

I like him, but I think we need to get a passing game going here at this club rather than doubling down on a handful of talented players who can carry the ball.

He's also cracking on a bit and we know he has injury issues.

people seem quick to forget just how good he’s been

He's very good, but we need a team not a few talented individuals.

The latter plan for buying players is a sticking plaster over the issues we have had as a football club for over a decade.

Get the ball to feet and let's have some pacy accurate and incisive passing and team interplay. That's called 'association football'.
