Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

TBF that isn't what the Iranian spokespeople said - they said they didn't want escalation, but that they had to give an effective response to an Israeli attack in Tehran against a guest.

After the consulate bombing a huge diplomatic effort was put in by the US, the EU, the UN most of the regional states and others to try and prevent further escalation. The Iranian government listened, the Israeli government didn't - just as its not listened to anyone that it doesnt agree with since long before October 7th.
Depends on how it all pans out. If Israel suffers significant infrastructure damage then I think they’ll respond in kind, possibly targeting Iranian power stations, oil refineries or port facilities.

My hope is that the Iranian response follows the same pattern as the last attack, however I think that’s wishful thinking. If Iran, Hez and other militias get the strikes coordinated properly then Israel is going to take big hits.

I think that the current Israeli government would look to do that, or more likely much worse than that, even if there wasn't significant infrastructure damage - I mean there is a very strong likelihood that escalation into a regional war is what Netanyahu wants and has been seeking for months now. Any Israeli deaths will probably see him demand a "response", even though it was him who kicked everything off to begin with.

I hope I am wrong, but I think he is probably quite close to pushing the button - he doesn't have any options left, they are quite clearly losing an existential war and I doubt he will be able to mug even the US into the kind of war in Iran that would be required to remove the Iranian regime (if that is even possible given the support from Russia, China and the rest of the world). Popping one or more off is also the, for now, one strategic card they still have left vis a vis their neighbours and given Iran's atomic programme / collaboration with the Russians there are probably only weeks / months where it could still be used with apparent impunity.

While I see this developing into a wider regional war, I don’t see it escalating to nukes and dragging in US, China and Russia.

If Iranian hits in Israel are big enough then Israel will respond conventionally with cyber, cruise and ballistic missiles.

The worrying thing for me is the quote from the Israeli war cabinet that they would possibly have to operate IDF aircraft from Greece and Cyprus in the event of large scale attacks. Iran responded by saying if that happens then they would consider attacks on those states. This has the potential therefore to draw in the EU /NATO as Greece will defend Cyprus and the EU / NATO will defend Greece.

Netanyahu’s time is up I think. Hopefully someone from his own side will slot him and end this madness.

I agree he needs to be removed, though putting him on trial for what he has done to Israel followed by an international trial for war crimes would be my preference.

I do think though that if Israel was so damaged that it didn't have safe airbases then there would be nukes flying, they'd be at that point of national defeat.

I think that the biggest and most sustained attacks will come from Hezbollah based in Lebanon. Iran will get involved but to what extent and effect I’m not so sure.

Jordan and SA have already stated that they will shoot down any drones and missiles fired by Iran that enter their airspace, then you’ve got the US, RAF and IDF kill zones to get through before you hit the Iron Dome shield. So I’m not sure what exactly will get through from Iran - for me the biggest threat to Israel is from Hez in Southern Lebanon and I can’t see Israel nuking Lebanon in response.

The scenario you cited was that Israeli aircraft would have to operate from Cyprus or Greece. My point was if things were that bad then they would push the button because of what would be required to be in that state.

Depends where the threat comes from. They may not be able to defend their airbases from attacks by Hez in Lebanon and therefore would be forced to stage aircraft from Cyprus or Greece.

Airbases and runways can be repaired / replaced, Pilots and aircraft cannot, so it makes sense for them to relocate.

If we ever went to war in Europe then our aircraft would be dispersed as standard practice because airfields are always prime targets.

I don’t see this Situation as a trigger for unleashing nukes. Israel will take big hits, its military infrastructure will take a hammering but they will get through it, it’s not an existential threat to them. They just need to preserve their aircraft and pilots.

Just got this from Aid to the Church in Need, a charity I support.

Some Israelis now turning on Christians. Hopefully this is very limited in terms of being representative of the wider Israeli population....

"Greetings from Aid to the Church in Need, Ireland! With your continued prayer and support, ACN is able to minister with some of the most vulnerable Christians in the world.

We are continuing to support Christians in the Holy Land in the midst of the ongoing war. This week, we report on how attacks and incidents of disrespect towards Christians are increasing in Israel, including spitting, physical harassment, damage to church property and cemeteries, and disruption of services."

Shocking, but it isn't "now turning on Christians" - its been happening since before the foundation of the state.

In fact, there was an article in the Times of Israel today about the bravery of an Aramean Christian village near the Lebanese border. They havent evacuated, their families serve in the IDF and in the civilian defence forces for the settlement, and they are all Israeli citizens; they are all in range of Hezbollah missile fire too.

The reason they haven't evacuated? Because the two other Aramean Christian villages nearby were evacuated in 1948 by the Israelis and the residents were never, even to this day, allowed to return to them.

reported numerous accounts using the N word, homophobia, slurs against muslims, people being told to die- X finds no concerns. Reply to a tweet about Bibi, saying he should swing from his ankles post trial- instant ban as soon as posted. Elon is a blert

It really is a pure right wing hate platform. Elon has made an absolute monster and appears to love it

Let me make one thing clear, i condemn Israel for being reckless and over zealous in their rightful defence of their people and country.

I will not however condemn Israel or the IDF for genocide because i do not believe that be so. I want the people of both Israel and Palestine to live in peace and harmony.
I’m catching up in this thread and way out of date but couldn’t ignore the ‘over zealous’ line.

That’s obscene terminology to describe what is happening on TV for your viewing pleasure. You literally are seeing children being murdered no matter how the media, and you, tries to sanitise it as ‘right to defend’.

Over zealous to bomb tents, schools, hospitals?

Speaking of which, overnight a school used as a shelter was bombed in Gaza City - reports say 90 dead, many wounded.

Netanyahu trying to derail ceasefire talks again.
