Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

Again I am not sure about this - the “Israel as an unsinkable aircraft carrier” theory is probably just another one of those theories that the lobby out about (like the kibbutzim are socialist was, or like Israel is the only LGBTQ friendly state in the region are).

Trump did a lot for Netanyahu during his term and, as I said, got nothing in return. He did a lot for Saudi too, and actually got quite a lot for it.

Given how transactional he is I think that experience, plus the state of desperation that Israel and Netanyahu are likely to be, are going to combine into a whole new reality for them. They aren’t going to have the exclusive ear of the President any more.
Let us hope that we do not have to see this play out to see the results, but if so I hope that you are correct, even I don't see it that way. 👍

I hope today's vote in the Knesset will finally force the scales to fall from the eyes of our government, and all other governments that claim to support a Palestinian state when the situation (read: Israel) allows.

They say they'll never allow it, so we should recognise Palestine now.

What would an Everton fan from Israel make of this, if he or she saw this thread.? In other discussion boards people are more mature about this issue, and more open to debate.

This notion or idea that Palestine and Palestinian's are 100% good, and that Israel and Israeli's are 100% bad is a total and utter alien and foreign concept to me.

It just doesn't register or compute with me on any level to be quite frank about it.

Neither is N Korea but it’s still a terror state like Israel

"what would some straw men make of this argument????!"

The problem with Israel, and its current government especially, is that prior to and since its existence it has created the enemies that it is now confronted with and on such a massive scale. Hezbollah and Hamas would not exist without the actions of the Israeli state; Hamas would not be in power if the moderates within Palestine were engaged with honestly.

Or to put it another way, Netanyahu has since coming to office portrayed himself as "Mr. Security". He has won multiple elections on that basis. Is Israel more secure now? Is supporting him and his regime making Israel safer - never mind the rest of the region and the globe?

Corky

I don't know anyone saying that on this Board except perhaps yourself in reverse.

Look up the population stats for the area that is now Israel and Palestine over the past 1000 years and note the exponential increase since 1940.

No one would begrudge a safe homeland for persecuted Jews but that should not mean they had the right to force Palestinian people from lands that they had worked and lived on for centuries.

What is your response to what Netanyahu did today blocking the building of a field hospital for children and overturning a decision of his own Minister for Justice?

I have said before Netanyahu is not Israel or the whole Jewish people. Hamas is not the whole Palestinian people.

The IRA/INLA were not Ireland or the Irish people.

This Israeli PM and his hawks in the regime are genocidal criminals. They do not represent every Israeli or Jew although their virulent propaganda has blinded many otherwise reasonable Israeli citizens.....but not all of them.
