Yes that's my point, it seems you think I am referring to Judaism when I refer to Jews. If it wasn't clear I am referring to the ethnic group which originated as a culture in the Levant and beyond and have been continually displaced over millennia.
While some people in the thread have been pushing a race angle the issue here is almost 100% cultural, yes after the Turkish occupation ended it would have been ideal if there could have been one state where peoples individual rights and freedoms were protected and they held hands and sang Kum ba Yah, but it was clear between 1918 and 1947 that was unlikely to happen, which led to the partition plan and the current clusterf**k.
I have always been pro-Palestinian, my kids are half Arabic and my mother in law is currently a refugee living in Jordan, so I do think I am looking at this through an objective lens in wanting a solution that will be effective rather than 'righteous'. I would be lying if I said I wasn't surprised and that my sympathy didn't wane when they voted in a Islamist terror group in the 2005 elections, any clear thinking westerner who tries to justify that, clearly thinks that Palestinians are less than, and not capable of anything better,
There has to be a two-state solution if the never ending cycle of misery is going to end, and the borders are going to be something along the lines of the 1967 borders with land swaps, any conversations outside of that are noise in the signal that will lead to more death and trauma.

No one apart from psychopaths takes any comfort in the death of innocent people, I agree with you.
Apart from the people who were Hamas militants, everyone one of those deaths is a tragedy, for the people killed and the family who mourn them.
That is a no-brainer, but what's the counter narrative?
How does a government respond to this?
In any disagreement we have two options, conversations or violence. If we expect non-violent responses from Israel why can we not expect them from Hamas?

Ashkenazi Jews who migrated to Europe still descend from the same group of Jews that never left the middle east, even if you deny their initial right to a homeland surely you believe that the people who do have a right, can establish a society where they welcome whoever they want as most countries do today.
Follow your reasoning to the end, how many people living in the UK now have what would be considered *European DNA? Don't go down that road, it goes to a bad place.
*for the record I am a Darwinian, we all originated in Africa and can all trace our roots back to a handful of women that lived there about 200k years ago. All differences are cultural and easily overcome with an acceptance of our common humanity and a tolerance of our differences.

Terrible deeds have been done in the name of Islam but they do not warrant genocide against innocent people, men women or children.
While we condemn Gazan Palestinians for voting for Hamas in 2005, let's remember that in 2000, the Israelis elected a man who carries the epithet "The Butcher" and was personally responsible for triggering the second intifada.
