Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

Is there an Ireland state broadcaster? Being repeatedly let down is starting to grate. To add, those poor children, all of those murdered. There's no come back from this for Israel I reckon. An awful lot of very bad and worse will has been earned. Where once there was generational harm, there is now centuries of harm. Right to defend itself indeed.

RTE.

RTE, they went with 'died' too

Yeah, you can see a lot of the younger university type Israelis leaving the country and it could easily become a bit of a waste land in 10 years or so

I was very close to working for an Israeli firm a few years ago, who have been fairly vocal in their support for the 'defence'. I do wonder if I would have been strong enough to leave, I hope I would have been

Interesting angle. I wonder if there is someone out there that's binned a job because of safety fears and not wanting to be associated with the mass slaughter of innocents. It'd be pretty hollow screaming antisemitism at someone that'd worked for an israeli firm for five or ten years plus.

there have been a few journo's who have, and a lot of DJ's who have shunned Germany/Berlin since 7 Oct - which would obv be them rejected their biggest gigs

but yeah, for a normal person like me. who knows, i think it was around 7 years ago, or so. i felt a little bit uncomfortable with it at the time, but i work in patents so i can hardly take the moral high ground on everything so i probably would have taken it if i was offered what i wanted.

i think i would have 100% be looking for another job, but quitting when you have family to support might be a bit too courageous for me

This phenomenon is everywhere, sadly. I read an especially egregious example in the Catholic Herald yesterday, which (aside from the headline) literally doesn't mention Israel at all - never mind the responsibility of the Israeli state for the deaths that the article mentions:

This one is especially annoying because the Latin Patriarchate and the local Catholic community have been very explicit as to who needs to stop doing what they have been doing.

Literally every news report on this on RTE tv or Radio (and the main independent Irish radio station) starts with a reminder that 1,200 people were murdered and 300 were kidnapped on Oct 7th before they detail that some Arabs passed away or were lost during an Israeli security or military objective.

The narrative absolutely sickens me. Terrified of the Israeli lobby calling them antisemitic.

Or bought out.

Israel have a big war chest in respect of shaping the agenda.

This one looks like a libel problem to me.

There isn't enough evidence to say Israeli soldiers definitively killed them, so they have to let the reader connect the dots. If evidence later emerged that one or more was in fact killed by militant fire, the Israeli government would sue and the media organization would be writing a large check.

You can call that moral cowardice if you like, but I doubt your employer would let you say something that could cost the company tens of millions if not more, even if the risk of your being wrong is low. I think the correct takeaway is the degree to which the Israeli government is a litigious bully that strongarms media organizations worldwide into silence.

You can't libel an organization or a country, just an individual. There would be no domestic legal problems for a news organization that reported that the Israeli military had killed someone unlawfully if it turned out that they hadn't. I know they often describe negative coverage (or should that be honest coverage?) as "libellous" but they never sue over it, because they cannot.

The problem for news organizations is that they cannot cope with the hostility of the Israeli state - which starts with organized complaining, runs via regulatory and political pressure in the organizations' home country, restrictions and bans from Israel itself and ends up with the physical destruction of equipment and journalists.

What has happened to the local Gaza press corps and al-Jazeera staff would happen to CNN, the BBC and others (it has already happened to Reuters and AFP).

Sure is an evil empire.

I wouldn't call a RTE all-Ireland STATE broadcaster although many in the wee six obviously watch and listen to its broadcasts.

Personally I can't stand their arrogance and 'we know better than you ignorant plebs' attitude in current affairs.

The only RTE radio I listen to is LyricFM (Mostly classical music) and some of their TV dramas and historical docs are good albeit need to beware their revisionist tendencies at times.

As for coverage of the Genocide in Palestine, it seems reasonably factual.

However the Irish politicians across the spectrum have pleasantly surprised me in their consistent stance on the Israeli criminal actions.

Meanwhile the brave IDF free two hostages and only 27 Palestinian 'animals' (according to views of Israeli politicians,) were killed.
