Condemn both Hamas and the Israeli government

That distinction is very important

Just saying Israel makes it sound like you're blanket blaming the Israeli people as a whole, which in turn gives ammunition to the "you're just being an anti-semite if you criticise the Israeli government" people

Oh yes, always place blame at the government, not the country as a whole.

I imagine a lot of Israelis just want to live in peace themselves

Unless you’re about to level Gaza , or starve it’s people that is

If people weren't specifically mentioning Hamas but mentioning Palestine as a whole (which some do) then it would have the same connotation

The people of both states are subjugated by horrible ruling factions. It is those factions that should be the target of ire, not the people themselves

It's not been highbrow for a long time. It's just a broadsheet Sun for people who think the trains used to run on time in the 50s and Jordan Peterson is ok for one of those liberal brainiacs.
Aye, it's a really hysterical organ. Tbf, I find that with the Guardian too on some issues. All a bit shrieky at times. But yeah, the Telegraph is absolute catnip for strange culture wars takes and the like. Often shoehorned in to otherwise fairly sober reporting.

I like reading it though, got to keep a eye on what the Tory grassroots are thinking.

They're still thinking Liz Truss was basically correct. So with any luck they'll push for some mad policies and make the Tories look even more unstable in the election run up.

Back on topic, the Telegraph reporting on this issue is mostly shrieky one sided hysterics.

….Starmer, the British and US Government stance is that the Israeli response should be within legal guidance. That is the right stance.

The Hamas attack on Israel was a terrorist attack. Their treatment of individuals was inhumane and I can’t even think of the pain the Israeli families are going through who’s loved ones have been taken hostage. I can understand why Israel want to wipe out Hamas. I can understand the Israeli response.
This is a really awful statement

The amount of people on here, refusing to condemn or even recognise Israel’s crimes! It really shows how well their lobbying has done and also, how hard it will be for future Palestinian justice
Hamas are not the Paletstinian people, they are an Iranian proxy ultimately serving Irans aims. They do not care about the lives of Palestinians and as we have just seem are more than willing to see them killed and made homeless.

I'm not sure anyone is happy that Hamas have put many Palestinian people in danger through their horrific actions. Hamas are committed to wiping out israel and all jews, again, following Irans lead. There can be no peace in the area whilst Hamas exists in its current form, that should be clear to all.

There was always going to be a reaction to Hamas actions and they will have factored this into their planning. Things are bad now but you can be sure that Hamas are planning on things getting a lot worse. What we need now are calm voices and persuasion, not "but what about".

I previously used the term dog whistle to describe how some get triggered by the word palestine but I suppose a 'bell' would have been a more apt description.

Probably the last I'll say on this subject for a while

Hamas are not our friends. They are violent fundamentalist monsters

The Israeli government are war mongering fundamentalist's look for any excuse to crush those that they can in order to extend their realm of control within the region

Both of them are horrible regimes that don't care one iota about the carnage they are causing and the pain they are inflicting on the people of their respective nations

The Palestinian and Israeli people are victims at the mercy of the sharks that govern their states

Neither of these two governments are the good guys. Both are brutal regimes that are suffocating the people they rule over, most of whom just want to live in peace and most of whom would likely accept a two state solution

There is a very strong propaganda machine that strives to make any criticism of the Israeli government be classed as anti-Semitism against the people of Israel as a whole. It's VITAL that rational people do not play into their hands. Always, ALWAYS, target the Israeli government itself. ALWAYS specify what you are being critical of. ALWAYS make it clear that you are not targeting the people of Israel itself, but the fundamentalist government that rules over them

If you want to help the people of this region, then all ire and criticism needs to be directed to the governments and not towards the people

Spot on.

….cheers fella, I thought some folk had forgotten what had happened here.
Actually a good point, but to be honest the more blatant war crimes that Israel commits and tens of thousands innocent Palestinians it kills, the quicker people will forget the Hamas attack and remember this time as a time when Israel dialed up their genocide regime to 100. They will lose a lot of friends doing what they are doing and there's still a very good chance of a much more serious war with Hamas' allies getting involved. That could be very ugly for Israel.

Yeh, the issue here is that the Israeli government and its 300,000+ civilian reservists are targetting non-hamas militants in its blockade and bombardment (and imminent ground invasion) of Gaza. However you chose to look at it, the settlers are causing misery all over Palestine and it needs to be discussed

Regardless, it is the actions “since and before” the hamas attacks that are the bigger issue. Israel has and will torment these people indefinitely
