Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

Anyway, time Israel was removed from European football. They are not European
I kind of think this, and there are many good reasons for it, but at the same time, it's the only practical thing to do.

They'd hardly be able to compete in qualifiers with the Arab nations.

Personally, I think they ought to be banned from international football until they allow the Palestinian national side to compete.

Exactly they are not being forced to face up to the consequences of their actions. And FIFA, UEFA etc keep preaching that football is a great way of bringing people of different communities to together, well let’s see it in practice.

I honestly can't see the issue with condemning Hamas for their horrific attacks and then also condemning Israel for their response.

Israel turned off running water and fuel supplies to a couple of million people and then told them all to move. This in one of the most densely populated areas of the world.

How on earth do they imagine it will end? I saw footage on the news of a man carrying his lifeless 5 year old daughter wrapped in a white sheet. What do you expect the response of civilians who have to suffer that to be? I would find it hard not to join whatever group I could to seek revenge.

Showing support for the civilians of Palestine is not supporting Hamas and it's not antisemitic.

Aye, the subtleties of this situation are sadly ignored by many. For me, the whole 'Israel has the right to defend itself' debate by many shows a lack of nuance.

After the attack, did Israel have the right to defend itself? Yes. Starmer has been criticised for saying so. But before everyone jumps on my comment...

What does the right to defend itself refer to? This is where a non-binary understanding is required because the initial response by the IDF would constitute one.

You could even argue that a proportional response to remove the Hamas threat would fall under the category. Yet, ultimately what the IDF is preparing doesn't fit.

What they are doing now is not self-defence - it's vengeance. The term collateral damage has been mentioned, but I'd air closer to accepted indiscriminate attacks.

The cutting off of fuel, water and medical supplies for an area that's predominantly non-combatants does not, in my eyes, fall under the category of self-defence.

And we can use the same nuanced views when analysing the actions of Palestinians. Do they have the right to feel aggrieved about the situation in Gaza pre-war?

Of course they do. But does that justify the actions by Hamas? No. Their actions a week ago today cannot be justified either, including their response since.

Are they likely using the population as human shield etc? I think so. So we get towards a situation that a layman may say is similar to 'the chicken or the egg?'.

Those of one disposition will blame the Palestinians, while others will blame the Israelis, with 'evidence' from the past brought the past to justify their stance.

There will be people on here who will read this and see it as defending Israel (it's not), while others will see it favouring Hamas - again, it's not.

Instead, it's my take that dogma and rhetoric are the fuels, and sadly I currently can't see any form of de-escalation because of such entrenched views.

The Israeli state is in the wrong and Hamas is in the wrong, with the victims of this saga being parts of each of their innocent populus.

Imitiaz Mahmoods opinion "Egypt doesn't allow Palestinians to cross into Egypt. No Muslim countries want them.

When Israel returned Sinai to Egypt, Egypt refused to take back Gaza, because Gazans are trouble wherever they are.

Egypt's border with Gaza is 8.7 miles long and 20 feet high. It’s made of stone and concrete. It also extends, with steel reinforcements, 60 feet below the surface.

This is to prevent underground tunnels, trafficking, and weapons smuggling.

In 2020, Egypt updated its wall to include electronic sensors."

I’d imagine that was built using US foreign aid since Egypt, Jordan and Israel are historically among the largest recipients of US foreign aid. Israel would struggle to survive without leaching from its ā€œFriendsā€
