Isolated Players (Front Page Article)

This part of pre season is fine tuning and geting the team ready for wolves. If these 4 are nowhere near the plans for the 1st game and beyond they will simply be in the way in training. Get the players working together who have a chance of playing and get rid of those that don't. Is it harsh? Maybe, but that's life, suck it up and get on with it.....

Surprised there’s so many negative views on this.

Williams and Mirallas have been no good for the squad for ages.

Indeed.

Sends the message that coasting a career away on big wages isn't going to be tolerated. Can't understand any negative view on this - my response is relief that something is finally being done.

There's another that needs the same treatment - Schneiderlin - but I accept that it all can't happen in one window. To have the manager successfully identify the four worst players at the club for various reasons is tremendous news.

But you've just confirmed the point I made in my last post. Koeman makes this decision = bad, he's a tool. Silva makes the decision = good, there's no malice.

People are just seeing what they want to see. I'm not being negative here, just trying to add some balance.

don't get me wrong I think its very harsh on vlasic, who has been terrible in pre season but shown enough in patches last season to not been thrown in the bin

but koeman was different he was just harsh to everyone, first teamers, youngsters everyone

marco is being harsh to a select few who no one wants at the club anyway ( again maybe not vlasic )

For me this is the start of a new regime hopefully. There'll be roadblocks and issues along the way, but this change has to happen. It probably means we, as fans, will witness more turmoil and disappointments this season. But we need to do this.

They're also supposed to be professional. The two you've highlighted are probably the two most professional players we have, which I would expect would preclude them from acting like petulant brats.
The manager has to have the final say , regardless of titty lipped responses. Work ethic is something we've lacked and if this is a step to instilling one then more power to him. I can watch us get beat as long as we've put an honest shift in, but I can't bear to watch shirkers stealing a living.
Again though, I completely agree with the principle but you've used the key word there without seemingly realising it - if. IF this improves team spirit and work ethic then it's a great move, and he can be applauded. All i'm saying is that assuming it WILL improve team spirit and work ethic shows a complete lack of understanding of the human psyche. This can go either way, it's a bold call and I respect him for that, I'd just rather wait and see whether it works before I start slapping everyone on the back saying 'what a manager'.

Good move from Silva. The only one you wonder about is Vlasic because he's young (and doesn't seem to be a negative influence). But he clearly hasn't impressed.

Cuco is not needed at right back (Coleman, Kenny) or left back (Baines, Digne). And he's not getting in anywhere else unless he's a good reserve goalie. Why are people at all surprised about that one?

And you can't tear out all the weeds this window (as much as Silva might like to). If all goes to plan the remaining ones will be replaced in the normal way next summer or even in Jan.

That's Jags mate.

Without wanting to labour the point, just because we don't want them here (and I don't want any of them, let me be clear on that) doesn't mean that 'nobody' does. That's the point i'm making. Holgate said last year that Williams was his hero, like a big brother to him. If someone told your big brother he wasn't welcome in their house how would you feel about going there? You don't think it would cause a little bit of a rift?

Banishing players from the first-team squad is a worrying development. It certainly doesn't strengthen the clubs hand in shifting players to other clubs, and getting fees for them.

Of course we are top heavy with numbers but in terms of morale this can't be seen as a good thing. Players will gossip and form cliques and we saw plenty of evidence last season and indeed so far in friendlies where it seems individual players and the group as a whole are not putting 100% in, with some exceptions.

I would imagine that Brands has approved that decision on Silva's recommendation so assume there are genuine and good reasons for it but it's not good, not good at all.

The legacy of destruction and chaos wrought by Koeman and Walsh in this respect is absolutely disgusting, for so-called professionals, and handsomely paid ones, at that. No accountability other than the sack, and we will spend the next few years dealing with the fallout.
We don't know the circumstances really. Williams might have an axe to grind-about the club because of the way the fans got on his back (quite rightly, but he won't see it that way); Vlasic I expect has been under pressure from his dad and has been making grumbling noises about his lack of chances, has lost heart and is possibly out of condition over the summer, Cuco maybe had a hissy fit that a Barca player has stolen the spot he (in his head) had nailed down last season, and Mirallas is ... well .... No explanation needed there really.

The manager wants to breed positivity and confidence, and in doing that there's no place for grumblers. What's more, other players will naturally respect a manager that shows strength like this, even if they have sympathy with those affected.
