We are a footnote in his career and he is a blip on our history.

I cant get my head around people even contemplating him being an Everton legend. He didn't even score a derby goal let alone win anything with us. (He actually might of scored one in his second time around? I try not to think about that era too much.)

He is no more of an Everton legend that Samuel Eto'o, both great players, or Alan Stubbs, both Evertonians.
Or Franny Jeffers

Rooney started his career at Everton. He was very good at a young age and clear had potential to be a world beater, but left, which he probably thought was the best thing for his career. Came back at the end after he'd won his trophies. Legendary career but nothing legendary about his time with us.

He is a striker who scored 25 goals for us, Same category as Tomasz Radzinski, Id have these 2 on par as far as Everton Legendary status goes. Although Radzinski did it in less games. Yack also scored 25 goals for us but in even less games, but for some reason I'd see him as more of a legend than Rooney.

He was a fantastic footballer, who played professionally for Everton briefly and won great things in his career, though the latter was with Man U. Nothing he did for us makes him a legend. United legend, yes

Feed the Roo and he will....

Of course he isn't, but we've got ourselves to a point where after 30 years of failure that the likes of Rooney will be touted as legends by those outside the club.

The thread title does not say 'football legend'.

He absolutely is a legend of Everton, cosied up to his agent stretford, helped man utd work the club, our club, the club he supported and was mascot and signed pro terms with, over for a lesser fee paid on the drip to soften the impact to the richest club in the world then.

So legendary status is applicable.

Like the legendary incompetence of neville chamberlain and his paper guarantee from a certain leader from overseas.

Legendary in terms of his off field exploits like a certain lad from Cregagh that was signed young and spent much to early that was used up by the very same club.

Legendary like a handful of players that had all the talent in the world, and blew it, we saw one see out his time in the game here, Gascoigne was a generational talent, but also a century defining own worst enemy idiot.

The drink, the food, the birds, the headlines, the shysters, the bare faced cheek to talk about "the truth". The legendary question is, as is so often... "what if"...

No he isn’t.

Won nothing with him. Did better the season he left than the season we had him. Gave all his best years to another club.

What’s legendary about him at our club? Scored a handful of goals. If that’s all you need to do, then is Radzinski a legend as well? As he scored 26 in 101 compared to Rooneys 28 in 117.

I think his initial impact on the team and fans is the stuff of legend. I understand why people don't want to afford him that status given his short tenure, but he remains a genuine home-grown star as far as I am concerned.

I didn't like the way he left, or his silly antics when playing against us, but It's all water under the bridge now. For me, he remains a genuine Everton prodigy who gave us some hope in dour times.

None of this makes him a legend though.

We are pretty pathetic to think otherwise really.
