I can't believe that so many of you say "good but not great". He's not quite Fabregas, but I would take him over almost any other central midfielder in the EPL.

I agree, personally I think hes close to the best player thats ever played the game, but I may be biased.

I'd say Iniesta, Xavi, Cristiano Ronaldo are steps up, but still under the term of "great" (they are "greater" )

Actually I was using Fabregas because I think they are comparable in many respects. I don't think Arteta is exactly at the same level as Fabregas, but I think if the traded places, each team would only see a very moderate difference. So, to me, that is good enough to be "great."

I mean, I'd take him over anyone currently manning the attacking midfield spot for any of the top six clubs, with the exception of Fabregas and perhaps one other player.

The Spanish press have been leaving me alone for the last few weeks.

Seriously, they rate him here in Spain and trawl out the regular lazy journo stuff about him wanting to come home. There was an article about him coming back from a year out injured in which he reiterated his love for the blues.
They do tend to agree with what most people on the site say, ie. Xavi and Iniesta blah, blah, blah. Wealth of talent in midfield blah, blah, blah. Ghost is a bad racialist blah, blah blah. Goat is a melt ha, ha, ha
