Is Baines Irreplaceable

All of a sudden, a lot of people are turning to Wigan players whenever we seek replacements. Strange...where is all this love coming from? Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Espinoza only a backup to Beausejour or Figueroa?

We have just employed their ex manager mate, he got them relegated.

Remember?

Yeah but I am amazed some people automatically turn to Wigan players for the first instinct. Signing one Wigan player on a free as back-up CB is alright but a host of them? Not for me.

Luke Shaw

Got to agree here.

As much as I love Baines he's not irreplaceable and if we managed to sell him and picked up Shaw I'd even goes as far as to say it would be a shrewd bit of business by the club.

Our reliance on Baines stems from our lack of creativity in midfield. We haven't had a genuine #10 in forever.

He is irreplaceable if we don't change our philosophy under Martinez. However, if we do change our philosophy which I think is very likely he wouldn't be in my opinion. He'd still be a great asset in a Martinez based system because his delivery is exceptional but he'd no longer be the focal point of everything.

Love him but he's not irreplaceable if we can get 18m for a soon to be 29 year old then that's good going. We have Oviedo who has some pace to burn and he could be like baines in a few years If he has learned of baines . Shaw is good but would be expensive as he's young n english

I have high hope on Oviedo but ain't sure if his defending ability is up to PL standard yet.

If we were Chelsea or Manchester City where money values mean very little, I wouldn't sell him at any price.

But for us, where unfortunately we survive by selling to buy, then however good Baines is, and we know he's very very good, it would be crazy to turn down 18 million for a left back who is approaching 29 years of age.

It would obviously be sad to see him leave, but from a business point of view it makes perfect sense.

Martinez would need to be a lot more wiser with the cash though than spunking 5 million on average 30 year old strikers, to make the sale of Baines worthwhile.

Mate if we can only sell player like Baines late in the transfer window, we might get desperate towards the end if we don't get enough bodies in and thus spunking millions on aging players. Hence, if our best players are to go, we better do the deals early on.

I have to make it clear that I want both Baines and Fellaini to stay put.

Under Moyes...he was.

Under Martinez...no.

He's a left back FFS. How many teams in European football rely on their left back to be the most creative force in the side? Im sure we're the only one.

He's not irreplaceable. We just don't rely on a left back as much as we should and look elsewhere in the squad for creativity.

Is he a 20 a season striker? A player that's a matter of losing a game if he doesnt play? No.

He's just a top draw full back that could play for any of the top teams in the world.

No-one is irreplaceable, but more often than not he's the heart of our main attacking outlet

TBH, if we're going to sell Banes, we may as well sell Pienaar as well. They bring the best out in one another, and are hugely compatible. Look at his torrid spell at Spurs, he needs Baines to get the best out of him.

We'd need to address our whole left side if we sell Bianes IMO.

I see a few people saying "Under Moyes he was boss, but under Martinez he wont be as important lad cos der Roberto plays der boss der football".

To these people, I say horsesh1t, regardless of the Manager, the tactics, Leighton Baines is still utterly BOSS.

He is boss.

But not irreplaceable. Unless RM wants to get a Baines-lite type player and use that left wing as a source of creativity, then he would be irreplaceable.
