Good man Sammy, couldn't get odds on it unfortunately.

So the curious thing here, is the UK parliament will likely vote for its assent and the DUP dont have a veto, so its this deal really.

DUP just dont want to go into the Assembly with Sinn Fein as the majority party and a Sinn Fein first minister.
Council elections in May. So grassroots DUP councillors won't back the deal. Then a few months of blood and thunder.
So, October before a possible meá culpa from them. Although your man's coronation at some point could be a useful distraction for them.

"What a fool I was. I was only a puppet, and so was Ulster, and so was Ireland, in the political game that was to get the Conservative Party into power,"

Could be mate. They need to keep an eye on the Unionist Spectrum to. Just like they cultivated hardline unionism and sunk the UUP, the TUV are now the young Turks and are coming out hard with rhetoric against the deal.

Either the DUP, take up a similar stance and cultivate Unionism or they try and unhabit moderate unioninim and the UUP tried to do.

Their is growing cohort particularly young people, who are just fed up not being represented, that’s fertile ground for the Alliance Party, for moderate unionism.

A lot of soul searching for the DUP I think, they will be conscious of what happened to the UUP after the GFA, conscious if the hardline threat of the TUV and the moderate threat of the Alliance - before we even talk about a nationalist majority. All that is happening in the context of a winding down of this Tory Government and they will be aware, they won’t have the same boon across the water under Labour.

I suspect the outcome of the DUP stance will be more about the DUP self interests than that of the people of Northern Ireland.

To paraphrase David Ervine;
These people, the DUP, are not to be trusted, their interests are self-interest. That bellicose ranting to your followers about the 'devil incarnate' becomes a problem when faced with having to deal with said 'devil'.

Also 'purple' Jim and blue bin boy don't have the ability to muster a statelet wide party. They're on the grift and know any attempt at that would damage their brand. (Beeb would definitely put the squeeze on 'multi injunction' Nolan facilitating them then, might take a big vice 👈 mind)

Unlike on the island of Ireland, there is no political issue with a border between Switzerland and France. Under the Good Friday Agreement free movement of Irish citizens is enshrined in that agreement. That means there cannot be a border on the island of Ireland to check people travelling, that would be to check passports or what they are carrying in vans, cars or lorries i.e goods. Also the all Ireland institutes cannot be hindered in their business, again enshrined in the agreement, by a border.

It is not the Irish republic who are playing politics with the border but the May government, with their political reliance on the DUP becoming more evident with every passing day. The DUP are actively pushing the Tories to tear up the Belfast agreement an international treaty between two sovereign governments. They also want the Northern Ireland Act 1989 repealed because it enables reference to be made to the ECJ by the Northern Ireland assembly - which is why they have hindered any agreement to get the assembly back on track and sitting to pass legislation.

Unfortunately, the likes of Davis, May, Johnson et al haven't a clue what is going on and they haven't a clue about what is in the Belfast Agreement and the Northern Ireland Act 1989 and the implications for Brexit and the island of Ireland. The clock is ticking and they will have to come clean with the people and admit Northern Ireland will not leave the EU - will have special status - or they will renege on an international agreement (Belfast agreement)- which wont look good when they are trying to negotiate international agreements with other countries outside the EU.
Added to what you have said you have to clearly understand the current electoral context in Northern Ireland, firstly the majority of voters wanted to remain in the EU. People here believe they are better off in Europe. Also currently the biggest party is Sinn Fein, if Stormont was to get up and running tomorrow Michelle O’Neill would be our First Minister. We currently have Sinn Fein Mayors for our 1st and 2nd cities. Our up coming local government elections will give an up-to-date state of the parties. I understand people use local government elections as a protest vote on occasions but they will give an indication of how people want to see happening. If the DUP/TUV grouping gain support then don’t expect to see much progress, however if Alliance and the middle ground continue to gain traction then we might see some progress.

No, not really the case at all.

A minor incident and nothing more mate. You really should apply context to it all.
Thank goodness it's just a minor incident.
Looked rather nasty on .news casts.
I find it rather disturbing that people are still wanting to start and be involved in these events through.
