No, but it’s a bit Gestapo-ish enlisting private solicitors and landlords to police the public.

They do it anyway. My daughter is buying a house, I’m paying the solicitors fees, I had to show proof of address and financial records…trust me we are really in 1984…..

So where does the person involved now go…it’s the same for rentals…for employment… for benefits…
You’re asking me to explain how an undocumented person survives in the UK? I’d imagine there’s a sizable under the table labor market. Same with rental.
I mean, you can easily snuff this out by turning the average joe into secret police.

Sorry, I thought you might give a serious reply….
Seriously puzzled how you think an undocumented individual couldn’t live and work in the UK. You are kidding yourself to think otherwise.

My initial point was re your surely tongue in cheek comment about returning people to NI if found to be illegally in the UK. Now I’m really not so sure it was tongue in cheek.

Good to see Loyalists continuing to contribute to the UK's reduction in GHGs and particulate matter yet again. When will this be stopped? March away but don't cause serious risks to life and health. Neighbouring houses having to be hosed down to prevent them going on fire.

The bonfires and the marches have no relevance in 2022, indeed they didn’t have fifty years ago. It is a bigoted ritual. As a Catholic, but believer in the Union I find it objectionable. But having said that and having lived through the 60’s and 70’s of the IRA/Sinn Fein I can see why some still do it. The Irish, on both sides, need to give up this history and grow up, but I fear it will never happen……

Pete, I agree. I am not a supporter of the Greens, but I spent 5 years working in Climate Change. These bonfires are completely irresponsible but they are part of Jeffrey Donaldson's fabric and the Tories continue to pander to his undemocratic approach to refusing to allow the Stormont administration to operate as was the clear mandate of the NI electorate.

If I lit a small bonfire to get rid of a few leaves in my garden without advance permission from my County Council I would face prosecution. These are monstrous - literally.

Their creators don't give a toss about the health of their neighbours never mind poisoning the atmosphere, yet the authorities just turn a blind eye year after year. An abomination that was 60m high is seen as some sort of great achievement while firefighters were putting their lives at risk all over NI trying to keep people safe.

But Donaldson continues to run off with the ball while nearly 80% of the electorate await their Government. @Armaghtoffee and others will have more knowledge from a local view but to see the Tory Government heading to breach International Law to placate the DUP is frankly incredible.

This is not about religion BTW. What the DUP is doing is simply undemocratic.

Clear as mud that position Pete.

So the Irish need to leave their history behind but yet you can see why people still burn bigoted bonfires ?.

And on thread, the Protocol has given us a great chance of economic prosperity and we just need the DUP to face that reality and share a government. If they do not want to power share then they should come out and say so.
