All this talk of 2 tier policing, seems to me there is a 2 tier vaccine policy going on. Been on app for 2 weeks since 34-39 age group opened. Only places is Belfast, Craigavon and Ballymena. Just in time for marching season pfft

I think what we are witnessing is the end days of a country, Northern Ireland is moving away from the Union and it is doing so quicker than was expected and at a gathering pace. If Scotland get a second referendum following their election then a border poll won’t be far away.
The DUP have been galvanising electoral success purely on the message, “if you don’t vote for us you will get them”, as they leak votes to the Alliance Party there is now a real fear they will lose their status as the biggest party and with that the role of the First Minister. Dumping Arleen and now trying to come up with a leader, or more likely leaders, which will stop them losing votes to the TUV and Alliance may work for a while, it might get them through the next round of elections but it won’t last. We will then see the amalgamation of Unionist parties, again to hang on to that First Minister post. However the range of beliefs within unionism is so diverse it would never last. If the DUP elect Edwin Poots as sole leader and lurch to the right then they will have an increased vote from fundamentalist Christians and loyalists but will leak votes to the centre. If they, as I think they will, elect Jeffrey Donaldson as leader and put Poots in as First Minister then they will have applied the sticking plaster for the time being.
If Alliance can find some proper candidates to support Naomi Long then the change in leadership of the DUP may become a non-issue as Alliance will continue to grow their vote and may well relegate the DUP to second place in the electoral stakes, if this happens will Poots serve as Deputy First Minister to a SF First Minister, cannot see that happening. That is when you will get an amalgamation of two or more unionist parties. When that stops working there will be a call for re-partition.
We find ourselves in interesting and dangerous times and times made more dangerous by English people voting for an idiot of a Prime Minister. We need strong and skilled leadership but we have a buffoon masquerading as a politican.

The 6 counties is not a country...it's two-thirds of a province in Ireland.IMG_20201031_100525.webp

As a former DPP, I wonder if Mr Starmer will be making any comment? Or is he still wrapping himself in the flag in an effort to woo the mill town nazis to want to touch this one with a barge pole?

Set up to fail that one. It's increasingly unlikely that there will be truth and reconciliation anytime soon.

The moment the DUP supported Brexit, that was the end of them. They basically signed on the dotted line for a united Ireland.

The irony it was the DUP of all people that made that an inevitability is staggering.

A united Ireland in the next 10 years or so is actually even more likely than Scottish independence, but I think both will happen.

But oh well, at least our passports will be blue.

Mr. Barnier not pulling any punches about the DUP.

We've known for ever that the British, and the tories in particular, knew nothing about Ireland. It now turns out that the EU negotiating team regarded the British negotiating team with contempt because of their sheer lack of knowledge about borders, customs points and a host of other Brexit issues. It turns out that Davis was grandstanding and that Raab is actually as vacant as he comes across during negotiations. Meanwhile, in Ireland, the sheer incompetency of the British government is pushing everyone down a very dangerous path this summer. Add to that the loons in the DUP and their paramilitary bosses and the perfect storm is coming upon us.
