This had been coming for a very long time imo. It's a whole combination of issues, and attempts to put it down to single issues feel wrong to me. I've seen some strange takes in the mainland GB media. Issues in NI politics are rarely down to 1 thing. There are normally a whole host of things!

That was Simon Hamilton (walked over Brexit) and as has been stated already Arlene has been battling internal conflicts almost continuously since the start.
As for unionism heading to a dark place. Unionism (not Unionists) has never been a particularly enlightened ideology.
