TBF I don’t think it is; if you look at the actual criticisms of many of the right here they are broadly similar to those of the left - access to housing, corrupt elites running the country, a biased media, people taking the piss, jobs being lost or made worse, bemoaning the decline of the country etc.

The difference between the two is the nonsense culture war rows over “woke”, BLM etc which the government and its media backers continually push, and the continual attacks from government and media on any (never mind the) opposition.

This forum is genuinely, barring a few odd balls, the only place I go that broadly shares similar views to my own.

Most of my mates, members of my family, people at work all have this undercurrent of racism, bigotry and sexism. Had a pissed up conversation with some of my mates last summer and it turned to politics, as it often does, and in particular workers rights. They were all happy to sign them away. Couldn’t believe it. Northern people from working class backgrounds being full on tories.

My wife is a nurse and other nurses and doctors she knows, many in their 20’s, voted Tory because Corbyn was an immigrant loving terrorist sympathiser.

Of course this may be anecdotal, and people are easily lead, but I’d be be surprised if this isn’t the case nationally

There's plenty of closet Tories on this forum too.

They leave @peteblue to take the flak for them and wont break cover because they know how reviled the Tories are on Merseyside and know they'll get buried for declaring themselves. Bu you have a look at the numbers throwing their bodies in front of Johnson and this governemnt over their conduct in this virus crisis and you can see just how many there are who probably vote Toory.

I must say, it's shocked me and disgusted me in equal measure.

Same mate. I live in Teesside and it’s Tory now and I don’t think it will go back to labour for some time. If Hartlepool goes Tory next month then it’s almost a clean sweep. The last two labour seats only clung on because the Brexit party split the vote. Absolute shambles.

Getting back to Ireland the quicker it unifies the better. If any of loyalist terrorists kick up a fuss then ship them over here where they will fit right in.

I think its mad how places like Stoke, Grimsby are tory. My thinking is that because they were labour for a long time and the areas have never got better people have started to change their views?

I don't really get how working class people think they will get any help from them. Probably the same type of people who support billionaires and want them to pay less tax. They CREATE the jobs..

Funny how people support Amazon because they employ people on minimum wage and their growth means small businesses who pay decent wages fail.

Send them back to Scotland. The plantation's over.

I think there is a lot of xenophobia which can/does lead to 'indirect' racism.

I think meeting a genuine racist in real life is uncommon. I'm not sure I have met someone with genuine hatred but xenophobia is rife.

May be it’s as simple as workers no longer have parents and unions telling them who to vote for. The decline of unions in workplaces and subsequently workers rights have unleashed a wave of little englander voters into the arms of the party who caused the destruction in the first place. Because people are idiots.

Also the amount of people who now are ‘company directors’ in the limited company scam. People love not paying tax and god help any party wanting to stop that.

I also think the right wing media have done a job on Labour over the years which hasn't helped at all. It's going to be difficult for Labour to win the next election unless they become better at getting their message out there.

A lot of that is papers or the wider media though; people just repeating what they’ve been told.

How someone criticised Corbyn (and what for) is the best example of that of course.

I spend a lot of time up in barrow because my partner is from there and they were all duped into believing Corbyn would come in to close down the shipyard that employs most of the town.

There’s also a really nasty underlying tone to working class culture that the tories have prayed upon and exploited, and towns like barrow and the ones mentioned in your posts above are the most vulnerable to far right dog whistling.

Half of my partners family were first time voters at the last election to cast a vote for the tories. I’ve tried to have discussions about it, but it always goes down the same xenophobic route and I take myself away as it’s not worth it.

Uneducated people prayed upon and exploited. That’s what’s happened. It may sound like smug, liberal arrogance but millions have been duped and aren’t intelligent enough to realise.

I think the media framing that the Tories are Britian first with a focus on British jobs has definitely worked with some communities. The media frames labour as a London centric party. The papers also in my opinion make it look like Labour aren't concerned with working class voters.

Barrow is an absolutely mental place.

I remember going to a pub there a few years ago and we got talking to a few girls and after a few minutes they started being horrendously racist. They didn't even blink and where saying awful things.

Look at who the local MP was for years; the snake even other snakes hate. A man who is on £300+ a day now.

Friend of mine voted out , I pointed out the his grandkids would be just the right age to serve in northern Ireland when it really hits home , sure enough he wants someone else's grandkids to sort it out, personally I hope the EU step in and unify Ireland and give independence to Scotland.
