Look at where her priorities are, slinging mud at SF when she has spent a month dog whistling to loyalists

Its no wonder her party are trying to get rid if her. Can you imagine what marching season ia gonna be like.....

Foster is so bigoted, it's an embarrassment.

She and the DUP were happy to take the bribe to prop up Conservative government and the Brexit deal and now she's blaming Sinn Fein for something she's up to her whiny arse in.

Foster is not someone you can rely on to calm this situation.

Won't be long for her and Brexit idiots are shouting for the army to get back in.

An old tweet from the comedian Paddy Kielty.

His father was murdered by loyalists when he was young.

To be brutality honest no Brexiter be it professional or it's useful sheeple anywhere on this topic has ever shown any slightest knowledge with regards NI, the GFA or border implications. Not expecting any development of knowledge either.

That's their desired conclusion to this. Civil war and forces on the streets.

Let's see how Johnson reacts to all this. A man desperate for a US trade deal needing to persuade a Democratic president that the GFA is preserved and peace (of sorts) will be maintained.

Kids throwing petrol bombs at buses, or setting fire to random cars that they’ve stolen, has nothing to do with politics or Brexit

they’re scum, get rid of them

The politics of NI and Brexit are a mess. But why use them as a reason for this happening? It’s scummy people doing scummy things.

Because people who want to cause trouble will try and use anything as an excuse for causing trouble. It's gone on in this country for decades and it's a load of utter rubbish.

I'll never say I'm embarrassed of where I come from. I was born here and had no choice in the matter so why should I feel embarassed. I'm utterly ashamed though of the nonsense that went on yesterday. The only people responsible for the trouble are the people who were involved in the trouble. As for those stood at the side clapping and encouraging kids, many of them grown adults - grow up, wise up, get a grip and catch yourselves on.

There are an absolute stack of issues at play in our politics at the minute, and there are no easy solutions. I have my own opinions on stuff but I try to avoid our politics as much as I can. However, the only people responsible for violence are those people being violent. It's up to the police the arrest those involved.

I have admitted many times that my knowledge of the nuances of ROI/NI politics is poor. So, about 4 years ago, I asked for any Brexiteer to explain how the GFA/Border and ending free movement of people circle could be squared.

Still waiting.

An exemplary post.

I’m saddened by all this.

Let’s hope the communities of N.I. can continue to move forwards in peace and harmony. Long is the list of former terrorists on both sides who rued the day they ever got involved.

The vast majority want a peaceful existence. It's the idiots who keep stoking the flames and use things as excuses to kick off. Of course the Irish Border/Brexit stuff is sensitive but with this government I always get the feeling that they are happy for headline news (Ie a riot on the shankhill) to deflect from Boris telling lies and Brexit being a load of crap. same with their handling of Covid. I got onto it right away when they didn't send strong messages not to mingle for VE day and instead ramped up patriotism knowing full well people would break rules and they could then point and say "well you guys had rules in place, you broke them"

A full NI kick off would play right into their hands, its pure deflection tactics and an excuse to get the flag wavers willing to accept Brexit ruining lives as long as they can be 'Proud British Patriots'. The daily narrative sickens me.

It's heartbreaking to see. I took my other half to Belfast a couple of years ago and she was so shocked that the city was riven by conflict so relatively recently.

She asked if I thought it could all kick off again. "Unfortunately yes, there's ways someone agitating on a cause. There's always an angry ant who'll get involved with a cause".

Now, as @paddyjsays above, it very much looks like it is happening.

I just feel very sorry for those who just want to go about their lives.

What a total mess.

The quicker Ireland becomes unified the better now.
Genuine question from someone who doesn't have much knowledge of the issues in NI and the GFA, how will unification resolve the issues that PhilM pointed out in his post listed here -

Ironically, it's such irrational hatred that fuels many of the issues in NI. Whether it's religion, politics or bloody football (any excuse really) it's almost dogmatic

Won't this issues still exist after unification?

This was all entirely predictable. I come from the Unionist community in Northern Ireland and would consider myself pro union. From day one when the referendum was announced you could see that Brexit would not end well for Unionism. It has turned out to be a major own goal. Despite trying to tell many of my unionist friends that our position on the Union would be far more secure if things remained as they were it fell largely on deaf ears.
Driving a wedge and division throughout the island of Ireland has given a boost to nationalism over here, a border poll previously hardly mentioned now looks a real possibility. The DUP couldn't wait to play the super Brits and cosy up to the ERG in the Conservative party. Of course they were used and discarded and now have no where to turn. Blame everyone else and call out the mob seems to be the only thing they can now think of. When things go wrong DUP pander to their base and shore up their hardliners that is what is going on here. A more moderate and sensible approach in the past has always led to cries of 'lundy' and 'sell out' which is why unionist parties and the DUP have never progressed.

Just seen the news, I try not too bother as much as it depresses me. What's going on in NI, can't be going backwards.

100% mate, and I'm not saying this as being against people from Northern Ireland or acting like that's the only place where there's bad people. It's the same everywhere.
