I have been in Belfast 25 years as a student and grafting and never once met an Ulster Scots afficiendo. And I say that as a disappointment.Didn't they also try and get parity with the Irish language with their Ulster-Scots "language"?
Lol.

Now is the time for political leadership from the DUP to call a halt. The optics of violent street protests in the middle of a pandemic is impossible to defend.A call to arms for all Protestants.
Not one of them will have seen the inside of a church since the water hit the horns on their heads when they were baptised.

A 13 year old was scooped last night for riotous behaviour. I suspect he isn’t au fait with the mechanics of the Protocol or policing during Covid. The DUP could inadvertently cause the fall of Stormont which is their worst case scenario electorally.
With calls for a unification vote gathering pace, if the DUP were to collapse Stormont over the Protocol (and policing) they will hand a huge initiative to the Unify side. Publicly stating that NI is ungovernable will go a long way to convincing the growing middle ground that proper change is needed. The political leaders of the unionistm have always been yahoos; but this generation of them are particularly chronic.
The problem is unionism itself; it makes no sense now. They are a demographic without any basis in reality (which is why the DUP leadeship are corrupt money chasers), whereas nationalism and unification offers some hope of stability and a complete identity rather than a partial one.
They have the threat of violence as their only card to play. You and others here would know more than I, but beyond a fraction of the population I dont think there's any appetite for that. With calls for a unification vote gathering pace, if the DUP were to collapse Stormont over the Protocol (and policing) they will hand a huge initiative to the Unify side. Gaining automatic entry back into the EU is also a huge carrot.
Telling that despite a call to come out onto the streets the riotous crowds are numbering around 30 to 40 people. Compared to what we have seen before that doesn’t even register. They have the threat of violence as their only card to play. Once the fog of the virus lifts, things are going to look a lot more clearer for people in those six counties. Stick with a basket case or make a clean break of it.
I've always thought what happens in Scotland will be a big influence on events. If they reject the union and go for independence, the rest of the UK splinters very quickly thereafter.

Long may it continue.Telling that despite a call to come out onto the streets the riotous crowds are numbering around 30 to 40 people. Compared to what we have seen before that doesn’t even register.
The conditions just aren’t there anymore for a return to the bad days of the past.
We are not far from our marching season which has been relatively quiet over the past few years but I fear this year may bring us back to the bad old days. Presently the rioting is confined to small areas and the numbers are small but parades bring large numbers on to the streets and if the agitators can whip up enough hatred then we could be in for a long summer. They have the threat of violence as their only card to play. As we all know, Scotland was key to the colonisation of the north of Ireland. Server that connection and those professing common cause with Britain in the 6 counties are very isolated in terms of their identity. That would be a crushing blow to them.Indeed.
I could see Scotland going first, rendering a Border Poll unnecessary as the whole “United Kingdom” project was a union between the English and Scottish crowns and without that link there is no longer a Union and it will automatically unravel.
You can bet your life England (and Wales) are not going to be in a “United Kingdom of Lower Britain and a part of Ulster”.
