I’ve no idea what you guys are trying to prove or score points on. NI has left the EU, but retains easy access to ROI for products. Access for people is covered by the CTA. NI is also in the U.K. and will take part in any trade deals done by the U.K. for NI it’s a win win. The ROI is still in the EU and will continue to pay €3Bn a year for the privilege, meanwhile NI will pay nothing. So you guys can prove anything you want but for NI they are in a good place, and you should all be happy, but I guess you won’t be.....
Ugh...
when I suggested a while ago that this outcome could work well for NI, you literally spent pages lambasting the idea and insisting that the UK would never bow to EU demands and change NIs status. There was a whole lot of ‘UK will all be treated the same’ talk before you moved on to computerized drone borders or some such.

He'll do it all night Khal. He's basically conceded that the six counties benefit from not leaving the EU, something that all leavers have learnt, subsequent to casting their vote...

Exactly, Emlyn.

Peter has spent the past few years on here running the EU down without ever giving one tangible benefit to the UK that Brexit would bring.

Every half baked argument he put forward was shot down on the In or Out thread.

Every time he has dipped his toe into this thread his ignorance of Irish history has been laid bare.

But now, at last, he admits that Ulster (6 counties of) will “benefit“ from its close alignment with the EU.

And for once he is spot on.

@peteblue if it is all right for NI to continue to “benefit” from close alignment with the EU why is not all right fir the city of Liverpool to achieve the same status?

Or Scotland.

Or England.

Or Wales.

Mr. Michael Give agrees wuth you on this matter.

Why can’t we all have the “best of both worlds”?

I‘m glad to see you agree that the best of both worlds also includes the UK’s new found independence allowing it to change taxation and laws to suit itself, to put trade deals in place to suit both parties and not be compromised by the demands of 27 other countries. And you can’t have the best of both because the EU doesn’t allow it. It is not the U.K. stopping the ROI from doing anything it wants on laws, taxation, benefits or subsidies. It is not the U.K. stopping the ROI from pursuing advantageous trade deals. It is not the U.K. that dictates your law. It’s the EU....and you cannot bring yourself to accept that fact.......

Then you were right, and it has worked well for NI.....

Can us Brits move and live freely in Ireland?. Think I'm right in saying that the Irish can continue to move here under the Common Travel area. Just wondering if it is the same for us?

Do you reckon that Putin has designs on Dublin? Pathetic...

No I don’t, because the ROI poses no threat to anyone, and that’s a great place to be. I sometimes wish we could just jack it all in and be a comfy little country minding our own business. Unfortunately the world does have some states that would happily walk all over Europe and indeed the ROI if they could. But they cannot because NATO protects it...
